Keeping an open mind

Keeping an open mind. It wasn't a matter of learning the kind of woman you would be. I knew by how Luke spoke that night and on every occasion thereafter that you were the kind of woman who would attract this kind of man- a man who doesn't settle, a man of discerning sensibilities and staggering conviction and honor. Keeping an open mind
http://newmanmu.blogspot.com/2012/05/incomplete-thoughts-over-years-ive-left.html
Keeping an open mind. Over the years I've left exactly four. Posts unfinished. I have to come to terms with the fact that I will never finish them. So, here they are in their entirety, forever and always to be undone, for your enjoyment/engagement/entrapment. Likely my views have "modified" on these topics. Please keep that context.]. Of your emotional evaluation of everything you've experienced. This is your "sense of life.". The beginning of a short story and a rough outline.]. Columba sat patiently on...

Keeping an open mind: Resolutions 2014
http://newmanmu.blogspot.com/2014/01/resolutions-2014.html
Keeping an open mind. For posterity and the like. 1 Get back to "the walk.". I love walking. Cities have so much to discover with no better way to do so than by walking the streets methodically and systematically. My walking declined in Los Angeles, a city made more for helicopters than feet, but Austin has many neighborhoods calling my Nikes. Ultimate goal: Fit by 30 and avoidance of digital screens. 2 Eat delicious food. 3 Write the stuff in my head. 4 Work more / work less. Daniel T. Richards.

Keeping an open mind: The Brewer's Tale

Keeping an open mind. Chip hooked up the mini-kegs and put out the plastic cups. By his clothes I half expected him to sweep up when we were done. He did. North Congress looks like DC at night- closed lunch shops and wifi spots, foot traffic with purpose, hippies. And a capitol. We walk on the lawn of the seat of government. Sculptures tell a story of exploration, settlement, and fight for independence. "Can I ride the bull? She asks. The sign says she can't. "What if I take out the sign? Make that Dr...

Keeping an open mind: Clippy: Misunderstood animated pedagogical agent or spawn of Satan?
http://newmanmu.blogspot.com/2012/07/clippy-misunderstood-animated.html
Keeping an open mind. Clippy: Misunderstood animated pedagogical agent or spawn of Satan? This was the one "paper" I wrote for my PhD program in Rhetoric and Communication at RPI. It was for an Introduction to Human/Computer Interaction class. I don't remember the exact assignment. Profile a famous person or "thing" in HCI, I think. I can't believe I turned this in. Haha. Nonetheless, here it is reprinted in its entirety for your enjoyment and my personal archive.]. Collected Letters of Van Gogh. Weak, l...

Keeping an open mind. On emotions and knowledge. Your subconscious is like a computer—more complex a computer than men can build—and its main function is the integration of your ideas. Who programs it? Are lightning-like estimates of the things around you, calculated according to your values.". If a newly formed conclusion stands in opposition to an emotion, you have to understand why in order to make a value judgment about both the conclusion and the emotion. Note:. Its a vicious cycle but not one that'...

Keeping an open mind: DC Interlude
http://newmanmu.blogspot.com/2013/05/dc-interlude.html
Keeping an open mind. The whole thing was "from the mind of FJ," setting and plot that I had previously known only from her descriptions. The cast, too, all seemed celebritized. Imagine what it might be like to have a BBQ with the cast of Arrested Development. Or to have a serious conversation with those guys from Duck Dynasty. Not bad, right? Fun for the most part but definitely surreal or detached—especially if you knew you wouldn't be doing it again, at least not for a long time. Two and 1/2 stars.

Keeping an open mind: Coffee Noir
http://newmanmu.blogspot.com/2012/09/coffee-noir.html
Keeping an open mind. It was supposed to be quick, you see, her ordering a passion fruit something-or-other, me with a chuckle chatting up the barista for an extra shot, all of us on our merry ways, yadda yadda yadda, happily ever end. LOST. But then it happened. I didn't know it happened at the time, 'cause when it happened nothing happened. But now I realize: That's just when it happens- when you don't know it's happening. And je ne sais qua. Well, what do you like? After an endless six seconds she rep...
