The glamorous life of the reviewer. I signed up to review this show before I got the cold - and before I realised just how full-on the work week was going to shape up to be. By the time Friday evening rolled around I was so tired I was afraid I was going to fall off the bar stool at Q theatre. So I had two coffees. Even as I was drinking them I knew it was a bad idea. But the show was only an hour long. I was sure my bladder could cope. You can read the Ginger Snort review on Theatreview. I'm currently w...
Hardcore punk at Lucha Lounge - Kathryn van Beek
http://www.kathrynvanbeek.co.nz/blog/caroles-te-kooti-brotherhood-graves-parents-review
Caroles, Te Kooti Brotherhood, Graves, Parents review. Hardcore punk at Lucha Lounge. It's not often that I go to a hardcore punk show, but Friday night at the Lucha Lounge was loud, angry and strangely therapeutic - the perfect end to the working week. Read the full review on The 13th Floor music website. My short fiction has been published in Headland. And my play Indiscretions was published by Playmarket. I also write reviews for The 13th Floor. And a collection of short stories for grown-ups.
Good morning, Eketahuna! - Kathryn van Beek
http://www.kathrynvanbeek.co.nz/blog/good-morning-eketahuna
While reading a beautiful photo book about the Wairarapa (. Wairarapa: A Place Apart. Photos by Pete Nikolaison. Text by Michael Wall) from the NZ Pacific Studio. Library, I came across the following paragraph:. Forty two kilometres north of Masterton we reach Eketahuna which, for reasons which are not entirely clear, many New Zealanders consider to be a mythical place; a kind of Antipodean Brigadoon. Charmed by this description I turned to the internet for more information, where Kiwi Slang. My short fi...
Seether at Logan Campbell Centre - Kathryn van Beek

Seether at Logan Campbell Centre. I wasn't familiar with Seether before last night. With their combination of powerhouse rock and roll and vocalist Shaun Morgan's impressive vocal chops they almost won me over. but unfortunately their set devolved into an overly long, overly indulgent marathon. Check out the photos and read the full review on The 13th Floor. My short fiction has been published in Headland. And my play Indiscretions was published by Playmarket. I also write reviews for The 13th Floor.
Ice Age - Kathryn van Beek
http://www.kathrynvanbeek.co.nz/ice-age.html
We buy Frankie and Lola ice creams from the kiosk in the park, then walk through the Pohutakawas to the beach. We sit on striped towels and watch as the kids dance into the water, unable to temper their joy at the sea with their love of ice cream. A chance act of nature. That’s how I thought our babies would be made. Just a bunch of cells that might casually change our lives, or wash away unnoticed with the next tide. Two of them now twirl before us under the vast sky. Two of them are on ice. Ldquo;Leave...

Holy Pussycats, Batman! Best of the Fest, Auckland Zinefest. What a crazy day yesterday was! I had a fabulous time at Auckland Zinefest yesterday, sharing a stall with super-talented designer. And stocking up on new goodies by. The day also featured workshops, delicious vegan food and chats with all sorts of interesting people. We headed out to the after party at the Wine Cellar because we wanted to keep the good vibes going. And I was shocked to win Best of the Fest! For a truly wonderful day. A freelan...

Kathryn Van Auken
I’m Kathryn Van Auken and I help people who want to explore their creative side, but are afraid they don’t have the talent, skills or the time to make it happen. I combine life coaching and crafting tools to teach them how to craft a life they love. Why crafting AND coaching? Maybe you’ve avoided crafting because you think you can’t do it or you’ve tried in the past and it didn’t come easily or you were criticized (by yourself or others) or maybe it seems frivolous and something only bored housewives do.

March 9th, 2017. I am so happy to share these images, they really do make me smile. I love doing styled shoots, they are stressful and take a lot of work by all involved, but the results are so worth it. Thank you to Rockhaven. In Elgin who so kindly hosted us for the day. We had a cold and overcast start to the day but it all worked out just perfectly! I wanted to create something romantic and not too structured and I think everyone pulled together to do just that. Thank you to this amazing team! This c...

These are examples of the new 'trees' that I have been working on for my series of solar thermal and wind energy plants, and serve as both structural/spatial elements as well as funnels for the extreme winds of Mars. Housed within the curvilinear trunks of these elements will be wind turbines, sealed off from the the interior pressurized spaces. Friday, February 12, 2010. Monday, January 25, 2010.
