Just another WordPress.com site. Norfolk interlude: buffeted by gales. Autumn bounty at Ely →. From ancient elephants to Jacobean splendour. October 12, 2013. Friday dawned grey, but a little less windy, so after breakfast we ventured to the beach, passing the pub where we had enjoyed a good meal the previous evening. The local style of wall construction with large, round flint stones held together by mortar was very evident in the morning light. We then braved the driving wind and rain to view the seasi...

Just another WordPress.com site. From ancient elephants to Jacobean splendour. Another Cathedral (St Albans) and a fox-sighting in London →. Autumn bounty at Ely. October 13, 2013. The Lamb provided an excellent breakfast, including creamy scrambled egg with smoked salmon. There was even the occasional spot of sunshine outside. We soon ventured out to explore. Chickens, rare black Norfolk turkeys and sheep were all displayed inside along with the more usual produce and flowers. And even a Green Man.

Just another WordPress.com site. Newer posts →. A rapid descent into Warwickshire. October 9, 2013. Another beautiful day dawned on Tuesday and we were off promptly around 9.30 for a big day with twenty-two locks to negotiate. We would also leave the Oxford Canal and join the Grand Union Canal. The famous Napton water buffalo were much in evidence, grazing happily in the green fields. We arrived in good time for a walk around Napton before lunch, so were able to see the church and windmill close-up.

About Jan’s travels. Folk style in Takayama, and on to Kanazawa. Temples and shrines of Kyoto →. April 14, 2012 · 12:14 pm. Kanazawa is a large city with its heritage attractions dispersed, so we were fortunate to be driven around by bus. Our first stop was the old Geisha district, with its traditional streetscape. Climbing up from the central Geisha area we came to a charming Buddhist shrine near a park with lovely views over the city. Folk style in Takayama, and on to Kanazawa. 2 responses to “. You ar...

Just another WordPress.com site. A trip to Flanders and southern Britain with a focus on art and science. Museum madness: science and art in London. October 16, 2013. Tuesday was the day for browsing around the museums of London, so in the morning we set off to South Kensington.
