About the celebratory sake. The Special Head Temple Sanboin of Koyasan was founded in the Jowa-period (834-848). It is a sub-temple where prayers are said for the mother of Kobo Daishi, Tamayori Gozen. The circumstance that Sanboin is the clan temple of the Niwa family, which used to rule the fief of Nihonmatsu, provided the link for Sanboin to order the Daishichi Sake Brewery from Nihonmatsu to brew this commemorative sake.

The Shingon Buddhist temple mountain of Koyasan (Mt. Koya in Wakayama Prefecture), a UNESCO World Heritage Site, was founded in 816 by the famous priest Kukai (Kobo Daishi). This year (2015), the 1200th anniversary of Koyasan will be celebrated by a splendid memorial service lasting for 50 days, from April 2 to May 21.
