Learning from the Kitchen Table: Routine vs. Schedule : preparing for a new school year

http://learningfromthekitchentable.blogspot.com/2011/05/routine-vs-schedule-preparing-for-new.html

Sunday, May 8, 2011. Routine vs. Schedule : preparing for a new school year. I was wandering around the forums on secular homeschooling and found a great thread that spoke of routines and the desire to have a schedule for the original poster's homeschooling day. The replies were encouraging, offered much support, and much to my surprise even offered up the difference in a routine vs. a schedule and why a routine is much more likely to work. Learning from the Kitchen Table: February 2011

http://learningfromthekitchentable.blogspot.com/2011_02_01_archive.html

Saturday, February 26, 2011. When I came up with the idea of a kids arts show, I had no idea that the many children in my life were SUCH a creative bunch. There was no way for me to guess what a mix of projects would line my living room wall and cover the tables! Friday, February 18, 2011. Reading was slow this week, as you have to breathe to accomplish reading out loud to kids. Breathing with the flu is strained enough! It was sunny while we were sick, and our playgroup went to the playground for the fi...

Learning from the Kitchen Table: December 2010

http://learningfromthekitchentable.blogspot.com/2010_12_01_archive.html

Friday, December 31, 2010. A New Year, a New Opportunity. It's that time of year again. The time when we pass the bubbly and talk about how we want to improve in the New Year. Honestly, I don't feel a "change" besides having to take down the schoolroom calendar inserts. It will probably take me until mid-March to remember what year it is. I still have a long way to go with last years resolutions for crying out loud! But I am still trying. I realize that I set myself and my family on a (mostly) unique pat...

Tuesday, August 31, 2010. Read, read, read" ( William Faulker). Eading is to the mind what exercise is to the body. Our new routine also includes the addition of 2 new bookclubs, one for me and one for Sydney. This means that 3 out of 4 of us are in a bookclub now - I think my love of reading is filtering down :). This month Nicholas will be reading. Sydney was the hostess for the younger bookclub and her selection was. Princess Hyacinth: the Surpriseing. Tale of a Girl Who Floated. Ory as well. I wa...

Learning from the Kitchen Table: The rising cost of middle class (and my life!)

http://learningfromthekitchentable.blogspot.com/2011/06/rising-cost-of-middle-class-and-my-life.html

Sunday, June 12, 2011. The rising cost of middle class (and my life! Don't worry, this isn't a whoa-is-me or whiny post ;) We all know that the price of gas, food, and everything else is higher than it has been in the past. I'm working on keeping a positive attitude about budgeting and just felt like writing about how I'm choosing to spend the money we have, and how I'm making it stretch as far as I can! June 18, 2011 at 8:47 PM. Its definitely exciting to get food right from your own yard, yes! Stories ...

Bite the Butt: December 2009

http://bitethebutt.blogspot.com/2009_12_01_archive.html

Sunday, December 27, 2009. The last time the girls went to Miss Lisa's (our daycare provider) she sent us off with the following little anecdote: "We were singing Christmas carols and having lots of fun. (This is the first year they've been exposed to them and really don't know that many). We sang "Joy to the World" and when we came to. The Lord has come. Ava asked, 'Who's the Lord? A journey of reluctant but determined homeschoolers. On Mar 2, 2011 in Biology. We used a stock template from Pages (software on Mac OSX) for storyboarding the animation. Then we asked Zizi to do the voice-overs, or narration. We broke it down into manageable chunks to make the process easier for everyone. Quicktime Pro was used to capture the audio segments. Once audio was recorded, the fun really began! For reference, here is a list of all the software we used:. 8211; storyboarding templates. Free stop...

Bite the Butt: August 2011

http://bitethebutt.blogspot.com/2011_08_01_archive.html

Friday, August 19, 2011. No I didn't forget I had have a blog. I've been overwhelmed with life for the last many months! Last week I noticed that I had been in a reasonably good mood for several days. That hadn't happened since ever. I actually felt like my old self again (I'm usually pretty jovial). I realized that I'd been taking my Estroven for over a week and concluded it was the cause of the return of the old me. Thank you Estroven! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Atlanta Metro Area, Georgia. Bite the Butt: Update 2011

http://bitethebutt.blogspot.com/2011/02/update-2011.html

Tuesday, February 22, 2011. The main purpose of this blog is to chronicle my family's life for posterity. If it helps or amuses others in the process, cool. Ironically, the more we have going on, the less time I have to write about or photograph it! So I'll just give a brief update:. Hubs is now working as a truck driver. I am not happy about being left. With three kids for three to four days a week, but I. I'm talking urban homesteading, baby! If anyone can do it YOU CAN! Your garden is gonna rock.

Wednesday, February 23, 2011. Getting the Garden Started. We found this great deal at Home Depot. The budget only allowed for six. Here I am putting the beds together. I'd just learned to use a drill the week before. I told the Hubs that now that I know how to use one, I don't need him anymore :-) . My laundry room/green house.oops! The marigolds sprouted but the basil is being stubborn. That was a good deal on the beds. I always have good luck just sowing the basil seeds right out. The Meming of Life.

Learning From The Book of Mormon

Learning From The Book of Mormon. Monday, August 17, 2015. I love it because the Lord is surprised in this story. After the brother of Jared sees the finger of the Lord, Ether 3:9 says this:. And the Lord said unto him: Because of thy faith thou hast seen that I shall take upon me flesh and blood; and never has man come before me with such exceeding faith as thou hast; for were it not so you could not have seen my finger. Sawest thou more than this? Tuesday, August 4, 2015. Ether 2- One Nation Under God?

Learning from the cheap seats. Rants and reflections on education, amongst other things. November 17, 2016. I’ll confess that this post is equally influenced by what I see playing out around me in spaces that are not schools. But, as it always seems to, I can’t help but think about what it means for schools and learning. Go in my feed? We’re more than happy to argue with each other, but much less eager to argue with ourselves. Notion of growth comes to mind too. Mine closely resembles discomfort, which i...

Mummy will you play? Never be afraid to get down and play, even if you feel a bit silly! Dark days – a more serious post. If there is one thing, above all, likely to affect your child’s learning then I would say it is emotional turmoil. A friend of mine, himself now a teacher, once described to me how he had felt when, as a child, his parents had separated. ‘I couldn’t think about anything else,’ was his conclusion, having described how he would sit and stare at the work on his desk. Or they may not seem...
