hi, idea: Cheris on dual language, parenting, Austin, and more
Cheris on dual language, parenting, Austin, and more. 4th and 6th graders. That is to say… grade schooler and (gulp) middle schooler. Tucking Graham, age 8, into bed. So why doesn’t Santa put anything in you and Daddy’s stockings? I don’t know… I guess because we’re grown-ups. Does Santa put anything in drunk people’s stockings? Ummm… drunk kids? Well… I don’t think so… they’re still grown-ups. But, you told me that people get drunk so they can feel like kids. 3rd and 5th graders. Those daydreams are bec...

My blog can most certainly NOT beat up your blog. Driving the point home. Just finished reading “Forgetting Again” on Jeremy Keith’s blog. It turns out that while people are fond of saying “the Internet never forgets,” it’s more accurate to say that it rarely remembers. Jeremy reminds us often that publishing our thoughts and photos on services that probably won’t be around forever is a dangerous business, and I’m always grateful for the reminder. I have misplaced my pants. Posts from July 2014. The story of a phone. I got my Nexus 4 in April 2013, and while I like the hardware and the stock Android 4.x UI just fine, somehow in 15 months I’ve broken the screen three times, and I thought I’d capture the history of all that in a post just because it’s been so ridiculous. Don’t get saucy with me, Bernaise. Things change, but sort of not. 1998-2001: weekend trips to Seoul to get American food we couldn’t get in Taejeon or Kwangju 2016: weekend trips to Barcelona to get Korean food we can’t get in Granada. Posted 2016.01.18 in food. Health aside, some of my friends were just weirded out. Why turn plant proteins into burgers and dogs? Why not just eat them as peas and soybeans and seeds? Just some blog by some guy in some city somewhere. Posts from April 2012. Mini-rant on gay marriage debate. It’s been an odd week on Twitter for JavaScript enthusiasts, as folks started forwarding around the fact that JS creator Brendan Eich donated money in support of Prop. 8, California’s gay marriage ban. As one might expect, this generated a whole lot of discussion and debate, with varying levels of civility. I have abstained from […]. Posted 2012.04.05 in politics. Rob Lifford is a musician.

Miscellany both pointless and pointy. I am really thrilled to announce that. My first-ever album of original music, is available to buy today. And Trevor’s main gig is with Wood & Wire. The cover art is by Joonkyung Shin, a buddy I worked with at frog design, where she was generally revered by her colleagues for her versatile but always-compelling illustration style. The album title is just a little phrase I loved in the last verse of the perfect-little-gem-of-a-pop-song title track from The Weepies.

Come for the freak, stay for the food. Posts from September 2012. I am really thrilled to announce that Helium Taxi, my first-ever album of original music, is available to buy today. The album is a collection of eight instrumental tunes, in the newgrass / jazzgrass / progressive-acoustic / whatever-you-want-to-call-it genre(s). It was all recorded live, no overdubs, on Cinco de Mayo 2012, with a string-band lineup including some of […]. Posted 2012.09.10 in music. Rob Lifford is a musician.

Never trust a lawyer when he says the Czech is in male. Posts from June 2012. More thoughts on the self crowdfunding era. There’s a really interesting discussion going on, sparked by Amanda Palmer’s smashing of a significant milestone on Kickstarter in May. I was drawn in by Austin Kleon’s response to a New York Times article about the whole thing. Go read that in another tab. I’ll wait. Then Scholl responded, via Tumblr, with a clarification: he […]. I ride a blazing saddle, I wear a shining star. Health aside, some of my friends were just weirded out. Why turn plant proteins into burgers and dogs? Why not just eat them as peas and soybeans and seeds? To which I say: taco, chimichanga, empanada, crepe, pierogi, wonton, gyoza, stuffed roti, pupusa, pastie, pig in a blanket, croque monsieur, pastrami on rye. Culture is a lump of flesh wrapped in dough. If you want to save the world, you’d better make it convenient. Got something to say about that?

Aaron Swartz » Rob Lifford's blog

Come for the freak, stay for the food. Just caught up on the Aaron Swartz story. Very sad news. It’s especially sad to me that this has happened in the same week as Alex Jones’ widely-linked, totally unhinged “tyrannical government” 2nd-Amendment argument on that show. It just underscores that, to me, the only REAL protections from so-called tyrannical government are computers… and hacktivists like Aaron Swartz. Got something to say about that?
