Eric Thompson

Monday, September 17, 2007. I'm amazed by the complexity of the SRI exercise and I've already been able to think of many ways to incorporate this method into my own kinds of teaching, and the different ways it can be used to help students improve their reading skills. His classifications are a bit technical, but the very specific anecdotes he gives from Ron, Cora and Joanne are fascinating. Sunday, September 16, 2007. Saturday, September 15, 2007. Some students simply don't want to read, this is terrible.

Eric Thompson: Wilhelm Chapter One.

http://www.literatureclass4800.blogspot.com/2007/09/wilhelm-chapter-one.html

Saturday, September 15, 2007. Well, I just finished chapter one of the Wilhelm book, and maybe I'm feeling more belligerent than usual today but this book is driving me crazy. Having read the full introduction and the first chapter the list of actual information I've gleaned so far is ridiculously short. Some students simply don't want to read, this is terrible. The reason these students don't want to read is because they've been encouraged to read only to look for meaning. View my complete profile.

Mr Connor's Resource for Teaching Literature. Wednesday, December 12, 2007. Overall Impressions of the Books in Class. Classroom. In parts Applemans. Text was hard to follow and many of her theories I would have to disagree on, but she presented her thoughts in a way that laid out her opinions and led you to question the theories presented. Applemans. Text presented a lot of opinions that I agreed with and presented a lot more interesting questions to consider. I liked how Wilhelm presented reading a...

http://readingisfuninhighschool.blogspot.com/2007/12/webb-chapter-four.html

Mr Connor's Resource for Teaching Literature. Wednesday, December 12, 2007. Webb, Chapter Four. This chapter in particular struck me in that youth violence was a serious problem in my pre. Internship at Hillside Middle School. The prevalence. Of youth violence in the classroom is a problem that needs to be addressed in order for students to feel safe in a place that is conducive. Sara DiBartolomeo: December 2007

http://saradibar.blogspot.com/2007_12_01_archive.html

Monday, December 10, 2007. I really didn't know what to expect when I signed up for this class. I was curious to see how things were going to be set up, and how we were going to learn about teaching literature to students. After taking 4790, I wasn't entirely out of the loop, but was very excited to see how that class can be tied into 4800. Sources, activities, and information each of these books contained. Sara DiBartolomeo: Text Debriefing-Appleman

http://saradibar.blogspot.com/2007/11/text-debriefing-appleman.html

Monday, November 5, 2007. Critical Encounters in High School English. Is a tremendous and necessary book to use in this course. Without this text I do not think I would know as much as I do now about theory in the classroom. This is definitely. A great resource for undergraduate students. Of this I do not think a student should lead discussion on this chapter, but rather you as the instructor leading it instead. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). The Bell Jar Presentation. The 21st Century School House

The 21st Century School House. A high school English teacher still trying to wrap his brain around teaching 21st century skills, digital literacy, the web 2.0, and anything else that sounds new. Monday, December 22, 2008. A little more pushing, a little bit of progress. Despite some skepticism and pre-Christmas pessimism, I have to admit I am a little energized by our school's new attempt to use a wiki. It's a step we needed to take. In this case, we needed to use the technology for the sake of using the...
