Monday, September 25, 2006. I am going to have to do a bit of a blog binge this week as I have a couple of weeks to catch up on. Posted by Maggie @ 5:18 PM. View my complete profile. Saturday, September 09, 2006. In reference to Peirce's speculation over Question 6 of whether a sign can have any meaning, if by its definition it is the sign of something absolutely incognisable". I find his affirmation of this point quite convincing. Having done the course on Analytic Philosophy last semester, I found that the philosophers of language run into major problems when they tried to account for things which are "uncognisable". Lets get on with the important questions.". Well, it works for me.

Thursday, August 31, 2006. 1) Is there a conflict in Peirce's conception of "reality" in relation to his notion of "generals"- which are alleged to be sufficient for physical action? 2) In the reading, the questioner has a problem with the doctrine, as it only gives evidence of single isolated experiments and their results- Is Peirce's response sufficient? 3) Did anyone else have real trouble making sense of Mr Charles Sanders Peirce? Posted by Maggie @ 12:35 AM. Tutorial Presentation, Week 6. Then Peirc...

Sunday, August 13, 2006. Hello, sorry I am late! Posted by Maggie @ 2:43 PM. Before I even begin with Peirce this week I want to make a note of his crazy writing style. Tutorial Presentation, Week 6. Charles Peirce prefaces his discussion of pragmatism by saying that he thinks experimentalists, are basically moulded to think of things in terms of science and that this is the best way to think He also notes that he himself is a bit of an experimentalist too. (how convenient). Peirce thinks that scientific...

Stef's Blog ~Pragmatism~ Phil3615: August 2006

Stef's Blog Pragmatism Phil3615. Thursday, August 31, 2006. Feel free to criticise or tear down completely, they were pretty experimental, for example I have no idea if you can validly put James' intersecting thought and thing processes on a space-like plane, as I did in the third drawing.). This is a just a diagram of what James describes in 'Does Consciousness Exist? Like distinct activity or thought-world. Or something like that, t. Here's a lot about this one that I don't think works. If along the ye...

Blog project for PHIL3615 Pragmatism at the University of Sydney. Sunday, September 03, 2006. Pictures of consciousness-reality: Bergson's cone. Stef posted some very impressive graphic interpretations of James' position in "Does consciousness exist". Not to take anything away from the art brut. Charm of Carolyn's drawing). The first one, with the two intersecting lines, is a fairly direct representation of what James is describing here:. Bergson's image is that of an inverted cone:. So the point is pure...

Philosophy 3615 : Pragmatism: August 2006

http://pragmatismblog.blogspot.com/2006_08_01_archive.html

Philosophy 3615 : Pragmatism. Thursday, August 31, 2006. Week five round up. This week in our discussion it seems that there is quite a bit of confusion about what exactly James' idea is. I think that this is probably due in part to how deeply embedded in us is the idea of the separation between the physical and the mental. But despite uncertainty over exactly what James is arguing in some parts, everyone seems to have a fairly positive opinion of the theory. But I don't think that relational ideas havin...

Pragmablog: October 2006

http://usydpragmablog.blogspot.com/2006_10_01_archive.html

Blog project for PHIL3615 Pragmatism at the University of Sydney. Friday, October 13, 2006. Dewey v Russell: the poster-boys. Reading the Dewey-Russell exchange always brings up issues of communication-commensurability for me, sometimes quite painfully: it's both very fascinating and a little stressful to watch these two almost. Deliberately miss each others' point or seem to move forward to meet the other half way but argh! It's a trick, they just wanted to get close to use the knife! Now of course neit...

Philosophy 3615 : Pragmatism. Sunday, October 29, 2006. Peirce 'The Universal Categories'. I’ve decided to do question seven, on the topic of reality for my final paper. I’m going to focus on the James articles, but I thought I should quickly go over Peirce’s The Universal Categories. As a point of comparison. In this article Peirce adapts Hegel’s ‘particular categories’. Such as it is, utterly ignoring everything else. That which can’t be extracted the quality of the feeling or sense in itself. As a sid...

Philosophy 3615 : Pragmatism. Saturday, September 16, 2006. More on Peirce coming soon. Or as soon as I find where I put it. Posted by Carolyn @ 11:12 PM. Thursday, September 07, 2006. Following up on James and conciousness. I've been having some issues with my blog mysteriously removing punctuation and duplicating lines in my posts - I cleared things up a bit and it seems to be fixed now. I thought I would follow up on some things from James before getting too far into Peirce. This is probably more appl...

Friday, 2 October 2009. Macbeth . from 'Lady Macbeth's Tale'. There’s something you should know about her, they. Tell him. But always it’s left unsaid, the final truth behind. The gossip surrounding her marriage. Some tragedy is. Hinted at. Something that lingers in her southern voice. Though she’s a Scotswoman, to her fingertips, make. No mistake about it. And the bonniest. The advancing. Years merely serving to add to her renown as the most. Exquisite of noblewomen. Only the gossip, that persists.
