Monday, April 14, 2014. I got a job! Someone who had been teaching got another job and had to leave. I was hired at the end of this semester. CRAZY. I finished out the last month of class and had such a good time. One thing that has been really strange for me (but is actually really common here) is that I had not yet met any native Qataris since moving to Doha. Sunday, April 6, 2014. In March we had our first visitors come to see us in Qatar. My inlaws came and stayed with us for about 2 and a half weeks. We had a great time showing them around Doha, and finally getting out to do some of the touristy things we had been meaning to do since we moved here. Here are some pictures from their visit. We visited the Fanar Islamic Cultural Center where we got to learn about Qatari cultural customs, and about the Islamic Religion. Shopping at the souq (marketplace).

Tuesday, November 5, 2013. Happy Halloween from Doha. We celebrated Halloween last week.which was strange to me, because I wasn't really expecting to celebrate Halloween in Qatar. Apparently there are lots of people here who do, so we joined in:) Our shipment won't arrive until mid November, so all of my holiday decorations are still on a boat at sea. We improvised and made our own Halloween decorations! Skull and crossbones snowflake,. Spider and bat snowflake, and. Bat and jack o lantern snowflake!

Sunday, February 3, 2013. Custom Wedding Cake Server and Topper, and Bridesmaids Jewelry! A few months back I got the opportunity to make a custom wedding cake server and topper for my niece. I fabricated the pieces from 16 gauge brass. Spent LOTS of time sanding, filing, finishing, and polishing. Then I had them silver plated. I didn't get the best photos so hopefully I can borrow the pieces back at some point to get better shots! And, here they are on her cute cake! Custom cake server and topper.
