Getting around the island. If you don't bring your car across on the ferry, you'll need to figure out some island transportation. The ferry runs alternately to Vineyard Haven and Oak Bluffs, so if you're staying in either of those towns, you could probably walk or take a taxi to your hotel. Places to eat are also readily available in those towns. When I looked around, I found Budget to be the cheapest, as most of the local places specialize in scooters and jeeps and other fancy rides. Cheapest option by far: Camp on the Ryerson's lawn! It's plenty big enough for lots of tents and Admiral Benbow's Inn is just steps away! There's an outdoor shower and an indoor bathroom as well if Admiral Benbow is too crude for your tastes. Plus there's always the lake to bathe in:) Max and I will be staying in the boathouse, so we'd love to have you close by (though we may try to put you to work chopping vegetables). Attleboro House, Oak Bluffs. The Farmhouse B&B, North Tisbury. 115 with shared bath.
