Chocolate Chip Cookies – Land of Sticks
https://landofsticks.wordpress.com/2016/04/17/chocolate-chip-cookies
17 April, 2016. This is the recipe I make most often as they’re relatively quick and very tasty. It’s based on a Chocolate Chip Cookie recipe I found in one of my Be-Ro cook books but as usual for me I’ve tweaked it a little. Triple Chocolate Chip Cookies (makes approx 18). 75g (3oz) Demarara Sugar. 2 x 15 ml spoon (2 tbsp) Golden syrup. 150g (5 oz) Self Raising Flour. 25g (1 oz) Cocoa. 100 g (4 oz) chocolate chips (I do half dark and half white chocolate). 2 x 15 ml spoon (2 tbsp) milk. Fill in your det...

A Well-Dressed Quest: May 2014
http://platformcat.blogspot.com/2014_05_01_archive.html
An attempt to visit every station - living or dead - on the big tile map at various North Eastern Railway stations, preferably in a fabulous outfit. Wednesday, 28 May 2014. Apologies in advance for my rubbish hair. I think it is somewhere between Kazakhstan and the Belgian Congo. Or at least, that's what it feels like when you're on a bus full of pensioners. First impressions of Guisborough were surprisingly good. It wasn't nearly as rough as I expected (It is, after all, practically Teesside). T...The o...

Jeeves’ Christmas Carol | Sloopjonb
https://writingwibble.wordpress.com/2016/12/24/jeeves-christmas-carol
Jeeves’ Christmas Carol. Jeeves’ Christmas Carol. December 24, 2016. January 8, 2017. A little festive jeu d’esprit, written in a spirit of sincere homage to the late Master, P. G. Wodehouse. Enjoy. The thing began when I happened to mention to Jeeves that I planned to spend the Christmas holidays at The Byres, country home of the Wintercombe family. I tried to be bright and offhand about it, but I confess I was a trifle nervous at broaching the subject. The next thing that happened in connection with th...

A Well-Dressed Quest: Richard Whiteley (or Can Woodlice Cough?)
http://platformcat.blogspot.com/2014/10/richard-whiteley-or-can-woodlice-cough.html
An attempt to visit every station - living or dead - on the big tile map at various North Eastern Railway stations, preferably in a fabulous outfit. Wednesday, 22 October 2014. Richard Whiteley (or Can Woodlice Cough? But realistically without vehicular assistance I was never going to get to Wetwang on a Sunday otherwise. Being a Sunday, there was activity happening at the new Fimber Halt. Wetwang - blinded by the sun. With the hair of the dog, working it's magic, there was just enough time to call in at...

On The Ration: June 2010
http://ontheration.blogspot.com/2010_06_01_archive.html
Wednesday, 23 June 2010. Oh, celery, how much do I love thee? Let me count the ways. chopped, shredded, boiled. well, three ways then. If you add green vegetables, reduce the amount it will last by more than a half. It'll taste even better with green or leafy vegetables, but it simply won't survive as well. Having got hold of some (not very fresh) celery at my not-very-local Co-op. Branch (I had £12 in dividend. Tuesday, 22 June 2010. Morrison's do a range of "fresh" pies that I never buy. On a stand...

On The Ration: May 2010
http://ontheration.blogspot.com/2010_05_01_archive.html
Monday, 31 May 2010. Do you believe in luck? For all my atheism and scientific rationalism, I'm still a superstitious person, in so far as I believe there's a limited degree of luck in the world and sometimes you have lots and sometimes none. Also, luck comes in. Ranging from extremely good to extremely bad, via a sort of crappy middle. "Cheese" is the analogy I'm trying not to make. On Flickr: Creative Commons licensed BY SA 2.0. Britain came very very last. From the kitchen, I could hear running water&...

On The Ration: The shocking truth about rationing
http://ontheration.blogspot.com/2010/08/shocking-truth-about-rationing.html
Sunday, 15 August 2010. The shocking truth about rationing. So, what happened in the interregnum? Well, as I said in the last post, the project continues, and there's not much I can add to that. The rhythm of rationing is something you start to feel as well as think after a few months, so coming up with recipes gets ever easier. In fact, I don't think I've opened a Marguerite Patten. What I have done is taken Tanya. To see their exhibition on rationing in World War II. Of course, first I had to find it&#...

Geocaching – Land of Sticks
https://landofsticks.wordpress.com/2014/05/24/geocaching
24 May, 2014. 24 May, 2014. Back in 2009 I discovered Geocaching. I thought it was just a US based thing but when I brought up the geocaching map I saw there were lots of caches near where I live, including one in the field right behind my house. I was fascinated, but I had no GPS device so I was never able to get any further than being fascinated. Later that week I bought my own GPS device. I’m officially hooked. I’ve been out caching 6 times in the past 2 weeks. Sometimes alone but ...Love reading how ...
