Miriam in Colombia with MCC: April 2009

http://www.miriamincolombia.blogspot.com/2009_04_01_archive.html

Miriam in Colombia with MCC. Thursday, April 23, 2009. Why am I in Colombia? I´m part of a 9-person group called SEED (Semilla), which is a 2-year pilot program of Mennonite Central Committee. MCC is the disaster relief, development and peacebuilding organization of the Anabaptist churches in the US and Canada (for more info about MCC: www.mcc.org). The 3 key words chosen for this program are Serve, Reflect, Advocate. In short, this program seeks to transform local churches, us, and our home communities.

http://www.miriamincolombia.blogspot.com/2010_01_01_archive.html

Miriam in Colombia with MCC. Tuesday, January 12, 2010. Yesterday I had one of those 'I don't wanna be a Canadian extranjera. Here in Colombia.' I was really frustrated. I get tired, to the point of annoyance, of at least 3 people a day asking me: 'Where are you from? It's cold in Canada isn. Yes, I'm a foreigner. Yes, I have blue eyes. Yes, it's cold in Canada. Finally, roaming around in the oats and cereals aisle (cereal is much less common here and more expensive: a tasty oat drink called. Tee hee hee...

Miriam in Colombia with MCC. Monday, December 28, 2009. Ombia is more than anything a time to be with fam. Ily There might not be extra money for presents but families get together to sing and even stay up all night accompanied by the melodies of traditional Christmas, salsa and merengu. C Dancing is also key - I continue to practice my salsa skills! Originally from the Catholic tradition, are popular here. In the 9 days leading up to Christmas, families gather together every night to say prayers and sing.

Miriam in Colombia with MCC: Christ needs you to love

http://www.miriamincolombia.blogspot.com/2010/05/christ-needs-you-to-love.html

Miriam in Colombia with MCC. Wednesday, May 12, 2010. Christ needs you to love. Here's a song we've started singing in the church. It's actually Catholic. People have surprisingly really taken to it! CHRIST NEEDS YOU TO LOVE. Christ needs you to love, to love. Christ needs you to love, to love. Chorus: Never mind their race. Nor the colour of their skin. Love all people as brothers and do what's right. Never mind their race. Nor the colour of their skin. Love all people as sisters and do what's right.

Down In My Heart: April 2010

http://down-in-my-heart.blogspot.com/2010_04_01_archive.html

Wednesday, April 28, 2010. Last Friday, each class put on a play and the kids presented our acting to the whole school. Then we celebrated a handful of students who excel in their classes (academically and behaviorally speaking). Here are few of the pictures that Marina took of the day's events. La viejecita (a little old lady). Un osito (a little bear). La pastorcita (little Bo Peep). Don sol (the sun). Cavernicolas (cavewomen.and dinosaurs in the background). These are my students. Firstly, I thought I...

Down In My Heart: August 2010

http://down-in-my-heart.blogspot.com/2010_08_01_archive.html

Sunday, August 29, 2010. Tayrona, as promised. Happy to be in one of the most beautiful places I've experienced. These gigantic rocks marked the coast line. We hiked to an old indigenous village, which has been restored for tourists, this is an example of the types of houses (very similar to what we saw in the Ciudad Perdida). A little day-glo friend. Hotel for one night. View from said hotel. In my opinion, best of the three swim-able beaches. Friday, August 27, 2010. Wednesday, August 11, 2010. Diana h...

Down In My Heart: May 2010

http://down-in-my-heart.blogspot.com/2010_05_01_archive.html

Sunday, May 30, 2010. This week has been pretty busy. I leave for training, retreat, and vacation in just six days, so I am scrambling a bit to organize everything at school. I have tests to finish, I have sub plans to write out, I have lesson plans to finish, then a few other pending emails, blog posts, and evaluations, also packing, cleaning, banking, and errands. Yikes. So long for now! Saturday, May 22, 2010. There was a death in Diana's family last week. Although not a close relative, the death ...

http://down-in-my-heart.blogspot.com/2010_10_01_archive.html

Tuesday, October 26, 2010. I went to the coast again. This is my face on vacation. A Mampujan friend, Yesith, he is the one who is around most often (in my opinion). Torin and his roommate took me to visit Mampujan viejo, (the place where Torin's community was displaced from). You can see how nature has taken over in the 10 years since their absence. These are two of my favorite Mampujan little girls, Olgita y Mariana. Monday, October 11, 2010. I had my camera so here are few pictures of the day. Also, t...

Tuesday, November 23, 2010. Today is my last day in Cazuca. I'll be back in a week for graduation, but this is my last official day/night I will live in the neighborhood of el progreso. Sunday, October 3, 2010. I was in Bogota for a day this weekend. I thought to bring my camera and took a few shots of interesting (and funny) graffiti. Also, this weekend, I hung out with my crafty friend Shalom and we figured out how to make big flower pins and ate really good food (cheddar cheese! Thanks for making it to the bottom. October 4, 2010 at 8:22 PM. I love the bridge. I would watch your toes around that one. :) I have parent teacher conferences this week! Two in Spanish tomorrow.

29 jan. 2015. So I am back in Bergen, and oh boy is it boring (and constantly. Haha nah. yes. Since I came back home I have seen the three people I know in this town, skyped, burned incents, watched Friends, become a vegetarian, had two unsuccesful fish experiances, gone second-hand hunting, emerged myself in some poor DIY and stopped smoking. What a wild life! Next I am planning to re-teach myself how to play guitar, learn how to speak properly German and. The most exciting thing of them all! Da jeg våk...

June 10, 2010 · 10:29 pm. Austria, round one. I’ve been living with an incredible Austrian couple named Isi and Wolfi in a tiny, tiny village called Tiffen (in the heart of Carinthia, bordering Italy and Slovenia). They live in a 150-year-old stone house at the foot of a mountain, nestled between a little creek and a 12. I think if I learn to adopt even a fraction of their good-heartedness and positivity, I’ll come out of this thing twice the person I used to be. Was in my early twenties ). For residents...

Miriam's YFU Exchange to Germany!

Miriam's YFU Exchange to Germany! Tuesday, October 25, 2011. This is the post that was supposed to be the second half of my post earlier this month - a list of funny things that Germans do. Or rather, a list of difference between the USA and Germany that I have noticed. Here they are, in no particular order. 1 They erase the chalkboards with a wet sponge. Seriously, guys? That just makes the chalkboard dirtier. 2 People actually participate in class. They like, raise their hands. 13 When teenagers drink,...

Miriam's life in Dublin

Miriam's life in Dublin. Thursday, February 28, 2008.
