Mixed Metamorphs: The dots and dashes bees - Thyreus and Amegilla
http://mixedmetamorphs.blogspot.com/2007/03/dots-and-dashes-bees-thyreus-and.html
Flora, fauna, anything - from the species rich cape to cape region of far south-south west-west Australia. Thursday, March 15, 2007. The dots and dashes bees - Thyreus and Amegilla. At last - about time I was eponymous (can it be a verb? Mer, being hot and dry, has been a bumper one for Amegilla. Sp A trifle bizarre when you think that the 2005-6 summer was noted for their absence. Here in Margaret River in that summer I saw zilch, zero, nil. Sp Except for tomatoes (which Amegilla. And when the Amegilla.

Flora, fauna, anything - from the species rich cape to cape region of far south-south west-west Australia. Thursday, November 16, 2006. The WA Insect Study Society newsletter of February 2006 had a fascinating report from David Knowles, on creating a database of macro-invertbrates for the Greater Perth Metropolitan Region. Links to this post. Monday, November 13, 2006. But I digress - at first glance I thought this was a tiny wasp, (it's appearing in sizes from tiny to small - 5-10 mm versions) it has al...
Mixed Metamorphs: The Real Estate
http://mixedmetamorphs.blogspot.com/2006/12/real-estate.html
Flora, fauna, anything - from the species rich cape to cape region of far south-south west-west Australia. Saturday, December 16, 2006. We've sold our farm, and have plunged headlong into the hellish pursuit of house hunting. Not only are we not too sure where we want to live, but even how - should it be a smallish or large-ish. Or a beach house? If any of the above, which town? North, south, in the middle? Give me more than 3 choices and I'm history anyway. But we did see a house on a small bush block.
Mixed Metamorphs: Saving Private Daylight

Flora, fauna, anything - from the species rich cape to cape region of far south-south west-west Australia. Wednesday, December 06, 2006. I had an extremely entertaining dream about daylight saving , I didn't want to wake up. There were lots of anarchistic looking hippies milling about waving placards with "Save Daylight". "Daylight is Innocent". "Free Daylight, Jail Howard". WA has gone onto daylight saving time! In the extra hour of daylight. As long as they don't procreate, fine by me. It's a meaningle...
Mixed Metamorphs: The Unreal Estate
http://mixedmetamorphs.blogspot.com/2007/03/unreal-estate.html
Flora, fauna, anything - from the species rich cape to cape region of far south-south west-west Australia. Thursday, March 15, 2007. I'm such a bad blogger. Life has been a dreary preoccupation with matters mundane, mostly of the house hunting and moving house type. I am now the potted expert on all things pertaining to that dangerous and highly evolved beast, the real estate agent. 8211; you don’t want to be there more than two days. 8211; they couldn’t afford to build the roof. 8211; see above.

My photos of the natural world's inhabitants, juxtaposed with what I've discovered about them. Wednesday, February 27, 2008. Coat of many colours. I'm back in Sydney! I have lots of photos from the top end that I'll probably throw up from time to time, though I'm rather busy for the moment with uni work. Almost immediately after getting back I went for a trip up to the mid-north coast. On the way, picnicing at Karuah, I spotted this lovely moth. A quick look on Don Herbison-Evans' site. You might recall ...

My photos of the natural world's inhabitants, juxtaposed with what I've discovered about them. Sunday, October 05, 2008. I guess there are two possibilities. One that it was killed by the fungus in a similar way to fungal to fungal attacks on caterpillars. Or perhaps the spider died first. Have a look at my photo. Where a jumping spider has caught a huntsman. And then look at this one here. Where a spider seems to have fed on the insides of the huntsman abdomen only. Very instersting shot and senerio.

My photos of the natural world's inhabitants, juxtaposed with what I've discovered about them. Monday, October 22, 2007. Ah, the things that excite me. A group of harlequin bugs (family Scutellidae) are growing up on my rosella bush this year. These insects seem to have a particular disposition for members of the hibiscus family (Malvacae), so they're often found on things like cotton plants and cow-itch trees. Thursday, October 18, 2007. My photos of the natural world's inhabitants, juxtaposed with what I've discovered about them. Friday, December 14, 2007. The rains have only been tantalising so far - puddles form then dry up in the baking sun of the following day. Frogs breed only to have their progeny fossilised in mud as it dries. Lightning fills the horizon as a storm approaches, but it is reduced to nothing but a breeze by the time it gets here. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). ANBees - Australian Native Bees group.

A jewelry making journey. BeadSmith 1.5mm Gothic Number Punch Set Review. September 6, 2012. I always love when I go get the mail and there is some sort of little packet for me. I thought I might do a little review of them in case anyone else is interested. The beadsmith punch on the bottom. As I commented last time, the leafcutters. Are swarming to the Croweas. There isn't much competition. I admit, not much else flowering, but it is a joy to see a plant that only attracts native bees. Barely a feral to be seen. It's the nectar they're after, not much pollen gathering going on. This smaller flowered Crowea. Sp A ...
