Finishing the GR5

Wednesday, May 15, 2013. As my bike salesman in Belgium probably knew (despite his promises), you can't ship an unaccompanied bike by train. So instead of returning it to him and getting some sort of a refund, my bike and I rode the train together about an hour and a half to the beautiful town of Haarlam, which is equidistant from the airport and Amsterdam. Returning to the first shop, I happily left some of that money there, buying a cute cycling jersey. Makes sense to me. The End for now. It had previo...

Finishing the GR5: March 2013

http://www.morleyruth.blogspot.com/2013_03_01_archive.html

Sunday, March 31, 2013. Today is Decision Day. Time to make those final choices as to what will go into the backpack. For tomorrow is Departure Day for Europe. In 2007, a backpack that was much too heavy (30 pounds) left me with a lot of knee, hip and back pain for several years. (Note: Pilates sessions in 2012-2013 cured all.thank you, Myra! After ordering a kit to sew a lightweight backpack from Ray Jardine, my new, fully-loaded version in 2009 came in at under 10 pounds. There are 2 reasons for th...

Finishing the GR5: CHANGE IN GAME PLAN

http://www.morleyruth.blogspot.com/2013/05/change-in-game-plan.html

Thursday, May 9, 2013. CHANGE IN GAME PLAN. It only took me two minutes on my feet this morning to know that it was time to stop walking. All the icing and Aleve in the world weren't fixing whatever was causing the pain and inflammation behind my right knee. I knew I couldn't go on. Long story short: the doctor says it's tendonitis and it will only get worse (which its doing) if I continue walking. But she thought that biking would be a good idea. Tomorrow I'll go to the tourist info office to see if the...

Finishing the GR5: PEAT BOGS AND HOT SPRINGS

http://www.morleyruth.blogspot.com/2013/05/peat-bogs-and-hot-springs.html

Friday, May 3, 2013. PEAT BOGS AND HOT SPRINGS. The 70% chance of rain today turned into 100% sunshine. Lucky, lucky, lucky! I'd rather be on flatter ground if and when the rain arrives. They say it did rain all last night, though, and that was obvious in the horrible mud I had to work my around most of the morning. I actually went ankle-deep once. I think it just makes a hiker look accomplished. :-). I purposely made today another day of less walking, more touring. Getting into Spa by 2 pm gave me t...

Notes from a Dark Pond . Pondlife's thoughts, musings, recipes, randonnées and the occasional short-story, rising bubblelike from the depths.of France. Tuesday, 1 April 2014. A Few Days in Provence. Twisted trunks and gnarled branches cling to the early season and already dry soils just above the celebrated sea port of St. Tropez. The port and town has so far managed to fend off the ugly hand of someone's idea of progress keeping the sloping lanes among the old houses desirable still. Caught by the River.

A Short Climb to Chalets dOche. Even in the depths of summer a period of prolonged rain in mountains starts to give a sense of decay. Some sycamore leaves fall slowly and silently like large butterflies and come to rest on the long leaves of lilies hanging heavily over torrents. Obat prostat tanpa operasi. 30 August 2014 at 16:02.

It's the end of the year as we know it, Jim. Apologies to all my reader, for ignoring you since the end of October when I stopped swimming in our local lake, and noting it here in all my enthusiasm. Notes from a Dark Pond . Pondlife's thoughts, musings, recipes, randonnées and the occasional short-story, rising bubblelike from the depths.of France. Tuesday, 29 April 2014. A delightful, delicious wine; Menetou-Salon. Last November 1st a delightful elderly French couple, H and L, came to dinner. We have known these elegant lovely people for about fifteen years. He helped me out of a problem spot with a madman many years ago. This wine will be sought soon. May have to stop nearby to Menetou-Salon o...
