Saturday, 11 January 2014. Engine Oil Change on a 2008 Defender. The sump plug has a rubber O-ring / washer instead of a metal sealing washer. I have removed it to show it separately in the photo. The O-ring / washer is not available by itself so you should fit a new sump plug. They are not expensive. I have seen a torque of 23 Nm or 17 ft lbs quoted when you refit the plug to the sump:. The oil filter element comes with a new sealing ring:. Remove the old sealing ring and fit the new one supplied:.
