With its origin beginning primarily in Cuba during the 1920's, Salsa has gained tremendous world-wide recognition over the last 70 years. The African rhythms woven within Salsa's big band sound creates a sophisticated dance of fluid embraces, erratic turns, swaying of the hips and intricate footwork. A few famous artists are Tito Puente, Eddie Palmeri, Chucho Valdez, Celia Cruz, Irakere, and the Afro Cuban All Stars.

Modern Punta evolved in Honduras in the 1970's but echoes the traditional music of the Garifuna people from West Caribbean. Not much has changed - lots and lots of gyrating hips! Punta consists of many layers of rhythms played in an extremely rapid tempo. Dancing can be in groups or as couples. A few of the famous artists are Kazzabe, Biggs, Shabakan, Silver Star, Los Rolands, Banda Blanca, and Los Gatos Bravos.
