Ruggero Rugarli (1926-2005) practiced his photography skills while traveling for work around the world: Russia, India, Europe, Japan, Australia and North America. New York was his favorite city. He traveled there 12 times between 1960 and 1976. In 1968 only he was in town 5 times. During each visit, Ruggero would stroll for a few hours, with his Leica at hand. New York Street Photography - The Pictures

For all of his street pictures, Ruggero Rugarli relied on his loyal Leica M3, then switched to a Reflex R5 in the 70's. The simplicity of the 50mm lens and the high sensitivity films would allow him to merge easily in the crowd and avoid using the flash. Black and white adds to the impressive framing precision. Each picture is the result of only one shot reflecting the absolute exactness of the photographer's eye. Also, Ruggero Rugarli hardly ever cropped his pictures while printing the negatives.

The "New York Instantané" exhibition took place in Paris from October 11th to the 20th 2012 in the town hall of the first arrondissement, place du Louvre. The visitors enjoyed the black and white prints, the fantastic theme, the stunning light of the pictures and the magical atmosphere of the New York streets perceived with poetry and wit. Photo amateurs as well as professionals and NYC lovers depict a wonderful exhibition and the revelation of Ruggero Rugarli's undeniable talent. I liked the exhibition.
