Day 28: Melide to Arca. July 29, 2015. July 29, 2015. Today our small group of 13 pilgrims celebrated not one, but three, birthdays! When we explained the situation they opened a small pre-school at the entrance to the town for us. Here are some of us checking out the features included in our accommodations. We went to Mass in the St. Eulalia parish in town and found an image of our lady of Lujan waiting for us! Note the table and chairs are pre-school sized. Day 27: Portomarín to Melide. Day 23: Ponferrada to Pereje. July 25, 2015. July 25, 2015. Our path today took us by the church of Santiago in Villafranca. Here there is a famous entrance called “la puerta del perdón” from the 13th c. Pilgrims who were too weak to make it over the last set of mountains could receive an indulgence for their pilgrimidge by walking through this door. Today it is opened during the holy years of St. James. Here are some other pilgrims taking a break. Day 24: Pereje to O Cebreiro. Leave a Reply Cancel reply.

Day 25: O Cerbreiro to Samos. July 26, 2015. Happy Feast of St James the Apostle! Today we went down the other side of the mountain pass. The first few hours we walked in a (cold! Cloud but midmorning the sun came out and made our hearts sing. At that point Bon Secours made the following insightful anthropological comment: “Now I understand why the ancient pagans worshiped the sun.”. One of the challenges of the Camino which we have not mentioned as of yet (mostly for the sake of our mothers) has been in...

Day 21: Astorga to Foncebadon. July 22, 2015. We slept in this morning and did not leave the albergue in Astorga until about 6:00am, which means we walked only a short distance before sunrise. The Camino was bustling with newcomers, pilgrims we have not seen before now. In the last section of our walk today we started going up a steep incline towards the highest point of the Camino. When we were almost there we got a beautiful sun shower-the first rain we’ve seen our pilgrimage. Though the sky was cloudy...
