北島航海記
２０００年、２００１年と続いた北島ダイビングツアーだったが、昨年はスケジュールの都合がつかず流してしまった。今年こそはと早くから日程を調整しての北島ダイビングとなった。目指したのはサリガン島とその近傍のジランダ礁である。サリガンは、サイパンの北１５０Km、東西南北２．５Kｍ、死火山の小さな島である。ジランダ礁は、更に北へ２０Km行った所にあり、かすかに水面に顔を出し波に洗われる、数百メートル離れた二組の岩である。我々は、二組のうち西側の岩に向かった。 ２００３年６月２０日２１：３０、我々を乗せたスーパーエメラルド号は、滑るようにスマイリー港を出港した。ほぼ真南の水平線上にある南十字星に見守られながら坦々と北へ進路をとった。 12288; まず、目指すはサリガンを通り越してのジランダ礁である。サリガンもジランダも、詳しい情報が無いポイントである。幾度か通ったことがあるという船長の示唆と汐見が唯一の頼りであった。 感動覚めやらぬ我々は、もう一度同じポイントでダイビングをすることにした。その２本目、その時に奇跡が起こった。 みんなが一様にこれ程までに興奮したダイビングがあっただろうか。ボートに上...
