小前田地区内荒川沿いの河岸段丘には、縄文時代中期 １万年前 に造られた 橋屋遺跡. 紺屋、綿屋、たばこ屋、桶屋、籠屋、藤田屋 旅籠、会所 寄合所 運送業、元締め、中宿などです。 明治時代の秩父往還小前田宿の様子が、明治の文豪 幸田露伴 の知々夫 秩父 紀行に載っています。

中町の古文書 お祭り勘定 祭りの収支決算書 の現存する最古の物は、１２代将軍徳川家慶の時代、. 天保１２年 １８４１年 で,その後現在まで１７１年継続されています。 長年の悲願であった 中町祭り屋台 が、明治四年 １８７２年 に建造されました。 間口４ ０ｍ、奥行き５ ４ｍ、高さ５ ９ｍです。 前後して、 本町屋台 上町屋台 が建造され、３台共現存しています。 中町屋台 の建造費は、当時のお金で一万両、現在のお金で一億円 一両が十万 と言われています。 小太鼓、大胴 大太鼓 、鉦、笛 篠笛 で構成されます。 平成２年 １９９０年 中町の有志の働きにより、３８年ぶりに 中町屋台 が復活し中町地区を曳行されました。 翌年、 本町屋台 上町屋台 も復活し、市道にて３台揃って曳行されました。
