. . .On The Road with Gail & Sid

On The Road with Gail and Sid. Saturday, September 17, 2011. Day 13 - Sept. 9, 2011 (Steve and Regional History). This photo was taken about 7 years after the library was built. I'm impressed by the Woman’s Hesperian Library Club dressed in their finest clothing posing proudly in front of the lovely building. When asked how he gained his skills in historic restoration, Steve told us he had watched every episode of the television show, This Old House. And Steve replied, "God.". Sid looks on as Steve plays...

. . .On The Road with Gail & Sid: Day 8 - Sept. 4, 2011

http://ontheroadwithgailsid.blogspot.com/2011/09/day-8-sept-4-2011.html

On The Road with Gail and Sid. Monday, September 5, 2011. Day 8 - Sept. 4, 2011. Sid took us on a drive through the back roads just outside of Custer State Park, and I was amazed to see a moose in the distance! We have been so fortunate to see all kinds of wildlife and we never imagined we would see a moose! We aren't sure of the purpose of the three figures, but we had a good laugh when we realized that we had been fooled. We stopped to take a photo of the Cathedral Spires in the distance. It was fu...

http://ontheroadwithgailsid.blogspot.com/2011/09/day-9-sept-5-2011-part-2.html

On The Road with Gail and Sid. Friday, September 9, 2011. Day 9 - Sept. 5, 2011 Part 2. Do you remember Norman, the buffalo who frequents the Blue Bell Lodge where we've been staying? I promised you I would post additional photos of Norman's "scratch fest" with the fire hydrant. Well, here it is beginning with a good scratch on the head that lasted for about 10 minutes. Even from a distance, I could tell that Norman was one happy buffalo! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Day 12 - Sept. 8, 2011.

. . .On The Road with Gail & Sid: Day 5 - September 1, 2011

On The Road with Gail and Sid. Friday, September 2, 2011. Day 5 - September 1, 2011. Of course, we visited Crazy Horse Memorial. After leaving Crazy Horse Memorial, we headed to Sturgis, SD, home of the famous Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. Which just ended on August 14th. On the scenic drive to Sturgis, we passed the stunning Pactola Dam and Reservoir, an important water control source for a large region and a gorgeous place to spend the day. What a delightful surprise! Tomorrow, we head to Devil's Tower.

On The Road with Gail and Sid. Thursday, September 1, 2011. Day 2 - August 29, 2011. Another day of chewing up the miles. Our plan is to travel west on I-70 across Missouri to Kansas City, then turn north following I-29 along the Missouri River past Omaha (Nebraska), Sioux City (Iowa), finally reaching southeast South Dakota at Sioux Falls, and ending at Mitchell, SD - about 600 miles. That is hard driving for us, but we had high hopes! Interstate 80 in Iowa. Sioux Falls South Dakota. September 4, 2011 a...

On The Road with Gail and Sid. Thursday, September 1, 2011. Day 3 - August 30, 2011. Even though we had more than 360 miles to travel before reaching Custer State Park, I was anxious to stop in Mitchell, SD, to see the Corn Palace, a folk-art wonder of the South Dakota prairie. My family had visited there in 1970.or 1971, and I wanted to see if it was similar to what I remembered. Here is the Corn Palace in 2011:. Since we were speeding by at 75 mph, I couldn't get a good photo of the flowers, but not be...

On The Road With George And Maureen

On The Road With George And Maureen. Welcome to our blog! Come and join us on what we hope will be interesting and exciting adventures. Having enjoyed camping with our children decades earlier, we dreamed of revisiting favorite state and national parks as well as new destinations across the country, although this time it wouldn't involve setting up a tent or sleeping in our 1970 VW bus. In 2008, we purchased a travel trailer (more on that later). Our Vacation Cottage On Wheels. Saturday, July 24, 2010.

on the road with grace

On the road with grace. One of my favorite quotes is from T.S. Eliot: The end of all our exploring will be to arrive where we started and know the place for the first time. This blog will share insights on some of the exploring and maybe a few reflections upon arrival. Wednesday, July 18, 2007. Travel: Along the Road of Life. This month I traveled to four states, journeyed an estimated 8,500 miles by plane and train and driven two rental cars (one of them a hybrid). What have I learned about my drive?

Traveling With Grace | Reflections on my wonderful, wild, wanderings

Reflections on my wonderful, wild, wanderings. Practice … Not Process. January 2, 2015. I’m not big on making New Year’s resolutions but I do spend part of New Year’s Eve and Day in reflection of what I’d like to create for the coming year. As I consider how I want to experience life in 2015 what intrigues me is cultivating a life of practice, not process. That really hasn’t worked so well. But I find myself doing that anyway, even though my experience tells me that is not the road to harmony. Practice n...

Over The Hill

Monday, July 29, 2013. What do you want? Tuesday, July 23, 2013. Rio in Five Hours. Rio in five hours. The towering 98ft limestone Cristo Redentor sits in the middle of the Tijuca national park, a tropical jungle smack in the middle of the city. A van full of folks from Europe, South Africa, Brazil, and the U.S.,. Led by a young, fast talking guide sped through the city as if we were being pursued. Warned, we careened around a narrow mountain road to a busy parking area where there were long lines of tou...
