Lessons from the Farm. 8220;How did you end up on a farm? Worth a thousand words…. 8220;How did you end up on a farm? Of a farm. Horses in the “yard” and food growing in the garden. And one day, we found. And a couple of years later, we began our own “Green Acres” odyssey…. 4 thoughts on “ “How did you end up on a farm? June 28, 2015 at 7:27 pm. March 24, 2015 at 4:32 pm. Lessons from the Farm. 8220;How did you end up on a farm? Worth a thousand words…. July 11, 2015. August 15, 2015. I’m not a believer in “luck”. I use the. Freely, but to me it means “fortune”. If something works to my advantage, I call it “lucky”, but I really mean that I was fortunate or blessed. And the older I get, the less I believe in coincidence. I believe God is in all of it. And when you believe that – that there are no coincidences – stuff starts to. And I’m starting in the coop. You are commen...

Lessons from the Farm. 8220;How did you end up on a farm? Worth a thousand words…. June 17, 2016. On the porch. She’s opened the canister with the cat food. There’s the crunch of the scoop. Yes, and the sound of falling kibble. And there they go, those damn cats. Leaping through the hole made in the window screen, then dropping onto the floor with a velvet PLOP PLOP. And then I hear her voice. Her high, sweet voice cooing at them. She’s up. I can ready myself. Who put him in charge? I think to myself.

Lessons from the Farm. 8220;How did you end up on a farm? Worth a thousand words…. December 12, 2015. December 14, 2015. In a conversation with one of our kids this morning, I was reminded of a feeling I haven’t felt for a long, long time. I haven’t had that particular feeling for about 25 years. I was able to recall it, though. And it felt great. There’s the feeling of. A thing. Like finishing. Or the feeling on the eve of the first day at school. Or a new job. When my clothes are carefully laid...The f...

Lessons from the Farm. 8220;How did you end up on a farm? Worth a thousand words…. June 21, 2015. June 22, 2015. My husband is the best dad I ever knew. He’s not my dad, but he’s the most important dad I’ve known in this life, aside from the Father Himself. But when it comes to priorities, our kids are number one. So John is the most important dad to me. He’s the guy our kids think of when they have a big decision to make, and they ask themselves, “What would Dad do? I got lucky. God blessed me. ...You a...

More about me (if you must know). December 2, 2016. An Open Letter To The Smiths. One thought on “. December 9, 2016 at 8:06 pm. I love thinking of that warm, rowdy, sarcastic, relaxed bunch of people sitting in a cozy home on the water, eating, drinking, laughing and feeling grateful for each other and for life in general. What a great trip. And not consequences from the flying petrie dish. We’ll done! Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here. Address never made public). We Have Had Deaths.

More about me (if you must know). November 27, 2016. After exiting the operating room, my body was connected to machines by 20 tubes and wires. Some were keeping me alive with oxygen and food, others were dropping medications, others were draining fluids. Each time a tube was removed, there was a small celebration and it was called a “milestone.” But to be honest, I remember few of these, I was so drugged. So over time, tubes and wires are removed. Because of my scleroderma and risk of aspirating ref...

More about me (if you must know). An Open Letter To The Smiths. December 2, 2016. Dear April, Greg and Henry, our Seattle Thanksgiving hosts,. What a pleasure it was to spend the holiday in your fabulous home. This tradition of ours, three years strong, started in Chicago when I could not easily travel and you three came to us. I remember asking, “are you up for this? I drag around a 50′ oxygen tube all over the house.” April, you said “absolutely,” and the tradition was born. I am grateful for a delicio...

More about me (if you must know). November 30, 2016. Well, that was a short burst of freedom. Now I have a heart monitor for 48 hours. It hangs around my neck and feels like a punishment. Apparently, we need to see how my heart is functioning to determine if I am on the right medicine. Sigh. These sticky sensors on my chest and sides are itchy. While I was at Northwestern yesterday, I also stopped into the dermatologist’s office to freeze off a few precancerous lesions. November 27, 2016. In the ICU, the...

More about me (if you must know). January 28, 2017. Really, I prefer to pass along good news but this week has been challenging. Instead of welcoming meeting attendees to our Monday staff meeting at work, I had a seizure and went unconscious, causing a 911 call, a trip in an ambulance, and a night in the hospital. Now I’m obsessed with this “edge.” Where is it? I’m not allowed to drive for 6 months, so Pepper will stay in the garage until summer, but I am allowed to walk and be alone and live my li...

More about me (if you must know). Where will the surgery happen? Northwestern. I am happy to say that although I am high-risk, and probably dilutive to their AOP (little shout-out to my sales strategy friends there), the best hospital for my condition accepted my case. It’s a new program. Where do donor lungs come from? How long do donor lungs last outside the body? How long will you wait on the list? Did you ever smoke? No My disease is caused by a stiffening of the lung tissue, making it permanently no...

More about me (if you must know). January 17, 2017. Lucky me. I met with the infectious diseases doc and he did not recommend hospitalization. He increased the med dose, took some blood and sent me on my way. I have one week to beat this and the process starts again when I meet with him again next Tuesday. In other good news my bronchoscopy test shows no rejection. Again, lucky! I’m Smiling Under The Mask. 3 thoughts on “ Free To Go. January 17, 2017 at 4:35 pm. January 17, 2017 at 4:49 pm.

Music, fashion, and culture through the eyes of a floridian. March 4, 2012. Blossoming | Lessons from the Farm
Lessons from the Farm. 8220;How did you end up on a farm? Worth a thousand words…. July 24, 2015. I have a confession. Our farm is not just a tranquil, charming home in the country. It’s our. And I’m doing anything I can to keep it from becoming. I’ve decided that is the primary reason I’m accumulating so many animals:. Our kids are leaving. Puppies are a pain. They pee everywhere and they chew on expensive things. But they are snuggly and cute and. So my naturally emerging strategy for our empty nest is...
