There are no words…. June 14th, 2016. By Laurie Singer Sievers. There are no words that can adequately convey the depth of the sorrow. How did we become so broken? VN:F [1.9.17 1161]. Rating: 0.0/ 5. 8220;Cancer” in my yard? June 8th, 2016. By Laurie Singer Sievers. My neighbor Susan spotted it first. She pointed to what looked like Indian corn growing amongst the leaves and twigs in my yard. The more we looked the more we saw, it's everywhere. Cancer root" appears to be a question-mark in the plant comm...

HOPE can be elusive…. July 7th, 2016. By Laurie Singer Sievers. We capture it and then it slips through our hands like sand through an hourglass. It gives us the energy to stay in the fight. Even when the cancer is pushing past the chemo and radiation, we hold on to hope, praying the body will rally. Hope is the last thing to go. We hold on to it long after the treatment list has been checked off. It's not that we're in denial; we're not. It's just so hard to let go. VN:F [1.9.17 1161]. Rating: 5.0/ 5.

Can’t live without them…. May 12th, 2016. By Laurie Singer Sievers. It's National Nurses Appreciation Week. Any one who has stepped into cancer world knows what it means to appreciate nurses. We could not have navigated this complicated journey without our nurses. There is not one story, but hundreds if not thousands of them and they all circle back to a nurse and the kindness and understanding they provided us each step of the way. The more I think about it, a week is not nearly enough. May 10th, 2016.
The best and worst month… | Our Cancer

The best and worst month…. July 15th, 2015. By Laurie Singer Sievers. Leroy would begin the last month of his life on this day, seven years ago. He hadn't moved to the hospital bed in the family room yet, but I'd finally been persuaded to accept the fact that I couldn't take care of him alone anymore, so I had some health care aides visit during the daytime hours to help me. I hated it. This was another mark on cancer's side of the scorecard. It was the best month and it was the worst month. The disease ...

It’s a calling, not a job…. July 28th, 2015. By Laurie Singer Sievers. I met a young woman today who reminded me how lucky we are to have "angels in waiting" in cancer world. Taylor is about to begin her masters program in social work. She wants to find a job in a hospital setting and to be even more specific, she wants to work with cancer patients. I asked her if she was aware of how tough a road that can be and with her back straightened and without hesitation, she answered, "yes.". Rating: 0.0/ 5.

A Pastor's Cancer Diary. Monday, November 17, 2014. November 17, 2014 — Bye, Bye Bexxar. There are many ways our market-driven healthcare-funding system in the United States is just plain crazy, but one of the most damaging is the way it tends to suppress certain vital and effective medications. This has evidently just happened to Bexxar, which is no longer available. Along with its competitor Zevalin, Bexxar is a radioimmunotherapy agent. What’s not to like? Many oncologists profit on two levels: both t...
