This is just a small part of the very popular adn recommended loop that goes in a circle through Durango, Silverton, Ouray, Ridgway, Telluride, Rico. And Cortez. Adjacent photo. The pictorial begins leaving Ouray heading south on Highway 550. Some beautiful mountains in the background, as we head up towards the Red Mountain Pass summit.

On Sunday morning, I convinced my friends Scott and Glenda to leave our fellow sleeping campers at the Ouray KOA Campground for a drive to Dallas Divide. Dallas Divide is a very scenic area between Ridgway and Placerville along Highway 62, north of the Sneffels Range. A photo of us there!

Mt Sneffels - A 14er Near Ouray (Hike On August 20, 2007). Jay Wilson and I hiked to the summit of Mt. Sneffels, which I think is the closest 14er to Ouray. We camped inside the canyon leading to Yankee Boy Basin at the Atlas Mill Campground, and we began our hike at the trailhead at approximately 6:15 am The common route to Mt. Sneffels begins uphill in earnest via this rock-filled gully. At one point as we continued up the gully, I turned back to capture Jay. The large peak out there is Gilpin Peak.

He is better known as an actor, but he and his band were great! What a great voice! Jewel was sitting right beside me, and I was thrilled when he had her come on the stage and sing a few songs. Thursday, July 25, 2013. Christ of the Mines Shrine. The Christ of the Mines Shrine is a 12-ton, 16-feet tall marble statue of Jesus Christ overlooking the town of Silverton, up on Anvil Mountain on the north side of town. The shrine was built 54 years ago for prosperity and protection for the mining industry. I found an interesting article from the Silverton Standard titled How the Shrine Was Built.
