The following is the letter Jeff sent in March, 2006, just prior to our road trip. It does a good job of explaining our idea and our plans for the next year. Dear Friends and Family,. 8221; We talked about it briefly, but it was idle chatter; just something to fantasize about to help get us to the end of the day. Except that I didn’t leave it as idle chatter. That night, I floated the idea past Susan, figuring she would dismiss it. To my surprise, she liked it. A lot. Jeff, Susan, and Justin.

In general, we're taking a clockwise path around the US, with our itinerary being dictated mostly by National Park locations. The challenge has been to hit each area at the right time for weather conditions, which is why the route gets convoluted at the end. Click below to open a map of each half of our trip). The first part of the trip started in Arizona, then went up the Pacific Coast, along the Northern States, down into the Midwest, up to the Northeast, then down the Atlantic Coast.

Writing has always been Susan’s true love. She has written poetry, short stories, a novel, two independently-written screenplays, and another screenplay with a fellow writer and friend. She and Jeff plan to write a non-fiction narrative about their year-long travels. Besides writing, other interests include rock climbing, hiking and skiing, which she acquired an appreciation for after meeting Jeff. Justin's interests include reading, dinosaurs, exploring the outdoors, and talking to anyone who will listen.

Saturday, November 5, 2011. I'm back. i promise. Vacation from the blog, I plan on getting back in the swing of things. There have been some major developments that make our life here on the plains a wee bit more interesting. Here's a quick rundown. More details to come! We've moved (across town)! Liam and I bought our first home this summer and moved in over Fourth of July weekend. We love having a place to call our home. We put everything else in storage, bought a 30-foot motor home, and hit the road to travel around the US for a year. One of our goals was to visit all 46 of the National Parks in the Lower 48.
