The Mathis Family: May 2014

http://mathis-family.blogspot.com/2014_05_01_archive.html

Tuesday, May 27, 2014. It's been nearly 4 years since my cancer diagnosis and treatment, but every May signals my return to the endocrinologist for a yearly check up. Every other year, he likes to do a sonogram to look and see if there is anything amiss and that, combined with my bloodwork, has given me a clean bill of health every year. This year was no exception. All went well, my bloodwork looks perfect and I'm good for another year! Saturday, May 17, 2014. Our new Webelos 1! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

The Mathis Family: Piper's Art Class

http://mathis-family.blogspot.com/2014/10/pipers-art-class.html

Wednesday, October 15, 2014. Right before our school year started, Caleb had a taekwon do demonstration at a homeschool group open house at our church. This was a homeschool group I knew of, had friends in and considered joining and did that night. One of the folks who were at this open house was an art teacher named Sandy. She holds art classes for all ages of homeschooled kids at a local Hobby Lobby. Of course, my ears perked up because, as we all know, an artist I am not. And my girl is.

The Mathis Family: Dance Year 2014-2015

http://mathis-family.blogspot.com/2014/09/dance-year-2014-2015.html

Monday, September 22, 2014. It's no secret that Piper did not want to take tap again, but she wanted to continue in dance. I try to make sure that the kids have at least one activity that is athletic in nature, and for her dance is it! The bonus is that she has a couple of little friends in her class, too, so it's doubly fun for her! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). 3 Kids, a Mini Van and a Mortgage. It Coulda Been Worse. The Mathis Family: Halloween

http://mathis-family.blogspot.com/2014/10/halloween.html

Wednesday, October 29, 2014. This past Sunday, our church had their annual Trunk or Treat, the event we put on for our community for Halloween. The kids had a great time dressing up as a Jedi and Elsa (like every other girl in the country), playing games and getting candy. We will go trick or treating in our neighborhood on Halloween itself, but this even is always one we look forward to the most! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). 3 Kids, a Mini Van and a Mortgage. The Mathis Family: A Second Diagnosis

http://mathis-family.blogspot.com/2014/10/a-second-diagnosis.html

Tuesday, October 07, 2014. One of the blood tests run was a Celiac panel and our pediatrician felt it was negative, although there were some other revelations that provided some insight and baffled us, all at the same time but the major fear, appendicitis, was ruled out, so we waited. So glad to have an answer for my boy's distress and am ready to get him on track! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). 3 Kids, a Mini Van and a Mortgage. It Coulda Been Worse. Rocks In My Dryer. The Mathis Family: December 2013

http://mathis-family.blogspot.com/2013_12_01_archive.html

Tuesday, December 17, 2013. This past weekend, Jes and I took the kids to lay wreaths at the national cemetery here in Houston with an organization called Wreaths Across America. This group purchases, ships and organizes thousands of volunteers to lay Christmas wreaths on the graves of veterans all across the country. We got up bright and early and drove to a local mall, where we parked the car and hopped on a shuttle that took us to the cemetery. This outing gave us some great talking points with the ki...

The Mathis Family: Fall Camp Out

http://mathis-family.blogspot.com/2014/11/fall-camp-out.html

Monday, November 10, 2014. This past weekend was Caleb's scout pack's fall campout. Jes had to go out of town and I wasn't going to let him miss, so I took on the job of taking the both of the kids camping. We only stayed Friday night and got home as fast as we could after all the activities on Saturday, but we did have some fun! Our campsite was right on a lake. A beautiful sight for sunsets and sunrises! This is his last year in Cub Scouts, so who know what will come next! It Coulda Been Worse.

The Mathis Family: July 2014

http://mathis-family.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html

Sunday, July 20, 2014. Science Camp and Fun. This past week, Piper went to science camp at our church, something I had signed her up for months ago. She is my independent free spirit, so she was super excited to have her own thing and go have fun. Mid-way through the week, I took the kids to Studio Movie Grill for their monthly family rewind movie. This week, it was Annie. I was a little unsure if the kids would like it, but this was what I saw of P the whole night. She was enraptured! Caleb and I then w...

The Mathis Family: Dewberry Farms

http://mathis-family.blogspot.com/2014/11/dewberry-farms.html

Saturday, November 01, 2014. This past Wednesday, I took the kids on a field trip with some folks from our homeschool group to a place called Dewberry Farms. This is a real working farm, just outside the city limits that puts on a fun fall activity set and the kids had a blast! We will for sure be adding this to our to-do list for the future! The Gardner Babes - Jude and Bryce

The Gardner Babes - Jude and Bryce. How did we get two of these? Thursday, July 11, 2013. Us, our dear friends, and my mom and dad (and their friends) all headed to Santa Rosa Beach for the Hampton/Cecil wedding in October. It was a good time to go - the weather was gorgeous, it wasn't crowded at all.but there were some crazy biting flies on the beach that hurt like the dickens, and unfortunately, our resort pooling was freezing cold. FREEZING! So much so, that Jude swam in the hot tub most of the week.

There are many recipes for melktert, but this one is based on the feedback of my friends. Enjoy! 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour. 2 cups whole milk.

In 9 hours, it will be exactly one year since Sandy took her last breath. The pain is more than I can stand. Is it because Sandy died? Partly. But, it’s much more than that. I have so many issues that I can’t even count them all. Did I do enough? Did she know how much I loved her (and still do)? Etc, etc., etc. Continue reading →. Having a bad night.
