Backpacking and walking were rather neglected by me as hobbies during the second half of the 1990s. However, my enthusiasm was re-kindled by the Coast to Coast walk. I did in July/August 2000. The C2C was designed by Wainwright, and it's a walk of 190 miles from St. Bee's on the west coast of England to Robin Hood's Bay on the east. Coast to Coast - September 2007. 35 times is finally enough. Quite a long time ago now, and apparently at some sort of dangerous loose end, Alfred Wainwright decided to plan a walking route from the West coast of England to the East. He scoured the maps and came up with:. The length of the walk is 190 miles, all of it on rights of way or through areas of open access, and an average walker will do it in two weeks. AW walked his route in 1972, and when he got home he wrote his book: A Coast to Coast Walk.
