Portbury Wharf Bird Ringing - Why Bird Ring?

http://portbury-wharf-ringing.co.uk/why-bird-ring.php

Raquo; Why Bird Ring. Many birdwatchers provide much needed scientific data through logging their observations with one of several schemes organised by the British Trust for Ornithology (BTO). And many local wildlife trusts. Provides hard scientific proof used in saving important habitats. If a bird is retrapped or seen (colour rings) elsewhere then we are able to collect data about individual birds such as movements and longevity. Ageing, sexing and species identification are more reliably recorded.
