Back in Japan: July 2011

Thursday, July 28, 2011. It will be the word of this summer in Japan - setsuden, saving electricity. After a few nuclear power plants took a rather long vacation and decided to stay shut down after the big earthquake in the Tohoku region in Japan, one thing that the Japanese always felt they have a never ending supply of is endangered: comfort, made by electricity. Can live be too comfortable? Of course toilet seats are run by electricity, too - they are heated, make sounds that prevent people in the nex...

Wednesday, August 11, 2010. Filler / Interlude / Pausenfüller. Ok ok, I know I've been lazy. The documentation of the Shikoku trip has not been completed and the last update has been ages ago. Even my boss complained about that, and I know that I can't keep you waiting much more with only a promise to be better. So here find the foto documentary of one reason the blog has been orphaned and look out for more to come soon! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). My Exile in Portland. Filler / Interlude / Pausenfüller.

Wednesday, October 13, 2010. The 88 temples pilgrimage of Shikoku - last day (Day 8). Today is the day I'm going to head back. But before I think about how to return (as I said, no trains here, and the local buses don't cover a big distance) I try to visit one more temple, no. 26. The city surrounding temple no. 25 is vivid as it seems to be a more or less important harbor city. All over the place there are fish shops that dry their fish in front of their shop on the street. In the woods again. But first...

Wednesday, April 6, 2011. January - surfing without waves. Shall I really go back into this duck pond? Take off 20m away from the beach :P. You surf what you get. Smaller waves = more paddling = more exhausting. No waves, but at least a breathtaking sunset. February - The waves are back! Unfortunately, on a Friday so I had to be in the office instead of being at the beach (something's wrong with this kind of live, seriously! But Sat was still not too bad! Another nice Hang 5! Where the surfers shop.

Thursday, September 23, 2010. The 88 temples pilgrimage of Shikoku - Day 6. The temple itself also was a bit different, it had a pagoda with some extraordinary form and by its position, it looked like it ruled the city below it. And it was the temple that took longest from being nearly there to being finally there - once in the city, first we thought the castle might be the temple (and were lucky that it is as it is located on a hill - extra climb? On top of the pagoda. Monday, September 13, 2010. A well...

Saturday, April 17, 2010. The Long Island Ice Tea is one of the strongest cocktails. A urban legend says, it has been invented by a house wife who didn't want her husband to discover she was drinking, so instead of taking some amount from one bottle, she took small amounts from every bottle. Wether this is true or not, a Long Island Ice Tea is rather a drink that you take when you want to get drunk, and is rather not a drink that you order because of the enjoyment of the good taste. There is one shop whe...

Saturday, March 20, 2010. If you move into a room that is completly furnitured, it will always feel like a hotel at first. So the first thing to do is to turn it into a home by personalizing where possible. Of course my computer used to have a CD drive, but this is somewhere in a packing case in Germany. Also, I bought a webcam to stay in touch with my friends all over the world. Of course, I used to have a webcam, but this is somewhere in a packing case in Germany. They sell hot coffee in cans here out ...

Friday, May 28, 2010. Hot show with naked fat men. Thanks to Thomas for the pictures! Ryogoku Kokugikan - quite empty in before noon. Look, I didn't bring any concealed weapons! Live's not always fair. (and size DOES matter! The big guys enter the ring. Every macho-sport needs some posing. ;). Takamisakari - he's somewhat special what only makes him more popular. Who would sponsor a sport where it's good to be fat? The salt drives bad spirits away and therefore prevents injuries! Sunday, May 23, 2010.
