Wizards of Oz: July 2009
http://wizarding-in-oz.blogspot.com/2009_07_01_archive.html
Thursday, 30 July 2009. A few months ago I said to K, ‘why don’t we have a few people round for some mulled wine and nibbles to do the whole “Christmas in July” thing? Anyway, as these things do, our ‘few drinks and nibbles’ turned into a feast fit for kings for 12 people (was meant to be 16 but we lost a few on the day to the ongoing lurgy striking people everywhere which may or may not be swine flu). So last week I spent most of my evenings (when I wasn’t in Melbourne! Oh yes and we’ve got more w...

Monday, 15 February 2010. New Zealand Day 6 – Queenstown. A quick morning walk and then another beautiful day for our journey back to Queenstown and a chilled out afternoon there including a trip up the gondola to take in the panorama (we couldn't be bothered walking up the hill to get there – figured we'd done enough walking! Wizards of Oz: August 2009
http://wizarding-in-oz.blogspot.com/2009_08_01_archive.html
Monday, 31 August 2009. Beer and wine makes you feel fine. Some of you might not believe this, but last week as an unusually alcohol-based week for me. Sat was a quiet one - we were supposed to be having dinner with friends but that was cancelled due to illness - and we couldn't even be bothered going to the cinema! Have got a fairly full-on week at work this week, lots of travelling and my regular freelancing gig on my 'day off', so suspect there will be far less beer and wine and feeling fine this week!

Wizards of Oz: New Zealand Day 7 to 10 – Auckland
http://wizarding-in-oz.blogspot.com/2010/02/new-zealand-day-7-to-10-auckland.html
Monday, 15 February 2010. New Zealand Day 7 to 10 – Auckland. K was speaking at / taking part in a community development and social enterprise conference for the latter part of our time in NZ so I'll spare you the boring details! All in all though, I'm really glad we made it down to the South Island and got a taste of the wildness of the country, and I'd love to come back some day to spend more time in the other parts of the country we didn't get to see (just not Auckland! 16 February 2010 at 09:36.

Wizards of Oz: April 2009
http://wizarding-in-oz.blogspot.com/2009_04_01_archive.html
Tuesday, 28 April 2009. Saturday was Anzac Day, a national day of remembrance of the Australian and New Zealand soldiers who have fought in various wars. The Aussies are big on the "Anzac spirit" although I'm not entirely sure what that means exactly. Here's what Wikipedia says it is:. The Anzac spirit also tends to capture the idea of an Australian "national character", with the landing at Anzac Cove often described as being the moment of birth of the nationhood of both Australia and New Zealand.".

Wizards of Oz: New Zealand Day 1 – Auckland
http://wizarding-in-oz.blogspot.com/2010/02/new-zealand-day-1-auckland.html
Monday, 15 February 2010. New Zealand Day 1 – Auckland. Touching down in Auckland, we got our first distant glimpses of NZ scenery – an appetite whetter! And generally whinging. Given that they appeared to live in one of Auckland's wealthiest areas, not sure why they didn't just get a cab! For some reason (possibly the 3 beers and our 6am start) we were both pretty tired, so we headed back to the apartment where K finished off some work emails – tsk, we're meant to be on holiday! I can report that Auckla...

Wizards of Oz: January 2009

Tuesday, 20 January 2009. After a 'fed up' week last week, had a definite Friday feeling and fortuitously ended up out for a few drinks with some people involved in the One Foundation. Who have just launched One Water in Australia - all profits go to ensuring clean water supplies for African villages. And so now it's Tuesday evening, I'm flying down to Melbourne on the red-eye flight at 7am tomorrow and once I've got the next three days of work out of the way, I'm ON HOLIDAY - HURRAH! Wizards of Oz: February 2009

Friday, 27 February 2009. It's a rich woman's world. I’ve just done something quite scary. I’ve worked out the percentage of my salary I pay in tax here, compared to the UK. When you add together PAYE, National Insurance and council tax, I paid about 32% of my total monthly salary in tax in the UK. Here I pay about 17%. Yes, that’s right, just over HALF of what I pay in the UK. Wowee Now, to put that in a bit of context:. 8226; It’s much more common for people to send their kids to fee-paying schoo...
