Rookie Homeschooling Mama

Tuesday, 18 March 2014. Club Day. The Nature Version. Today's Club meeting could have gone with the tagline, "Just Play With Your Food." Which is exactly what we did today. But it was all with a purpose. You see, we were experimenting with different bird beak designs and discovering that certain beaks are engineered specifically for the preferred food of its owner. As the club went about finishing their snack using their tool of choice, I read the book. Monday, 17 March 2014. So a couple of hours were sp...

Rookie Homeschooling Mama: October 2013

http://rookiehomeschoolmama.blogspot.com/2013_10_01_archive.html

Thursday, 31 October 2013. A haunting good time. Ahhhmy little goblins are out haunting the neighbourhood while I stand guard over our stash of Hallowe'en goodies and treats and greet our little visitors one-by-one. I'm also armed with warm Hallowe'en punch for when the little ones return from their adventures. I can't remember the last time I stayed home and Chris took the little ones out. But this is nice. We hope everyone had a happy Hallowe'en! Tuesday, 29 October 2013. Labels: Birds of Prey Club.

Rookie Homeschooling Mama: September 2013

http://rookiehomeschoolmama.blogspot.com/2013_09_01_archive.html

Sunday, 29 September 2013. Almost ready to inhale. That light at the end of the tunnel that was so dim and distant is getting closer now. The season of being outside and active and busy with the good things of life is coming to an end - I can feel it now. The last of the summer's fruit is ripening in boxes and is awaiting its next transformation into chutney and sauce and just plain canned fruit. Thursday, 26 September 2013. Club Day. The Nature Version. A gentle rain drizzled down upon our part of the w...

Rookie Homeschooling Mama: Dreaming of days to come

http://rookiehomeschoolmama.blogspot.com/2014/03/dreaming-of-days-to-come.html

Saturday, 1 March 2014. Dreaming of days to come. My, it's been a while since I've found myself in front of this blank page. I think it's been partly due to my will extending my after-Christmas holiday, partly due to our ramped-up winter busy-ness, and partly due to the coldest February on record for these parts. Wishing that potatoes and tomatoes got along better (or at least could find one friend they had in common to go between them), and resolute determination to try out the three sisters method.

Rookie Homeschooling Mama: Two birds with one stone

http://rookiehomeschoolmama.blogspot.com/2014/02/two-birds-with-one-stone.html

Wednesday, 5 February 2014. Two birds with one stone. I wasn't planning on sharing this little 20 minute adventure, as it isn't a pretty one, really. It's quite filled with grime and messy build-up actually. Today's quick project was underneath my kitchen sink. It's definitely not a glamorous spot that will receive a lot of attention, but my reason for cleaning it out had nothing to do with the mess or grime that was under there. And here's what it looks like now. Minimal. Accessible. Simple. My name is ...

Rookie Homeschooling Mama: January 2014

http://rookiehomeschoolmama.blogspot.com/2014_01_01_archive.html

Thursday, 30 January 2014. There was an ease that came with today.it was easy to smile, easy to work, easy to play. I'm hopeful getting rid of some psychological baggage. Did the trick. With its weight lifted off me, I found it easier to embrace the challenges as opportunities to learn and to look for solutions when conflict is wiggling its way into our day. And I have had some aha moments I'd like to take the time to capture for future reference. In no particular order. Tuesday, 28 January 2014. As I go...

Rookie Homeowner

This blog is dedicated to the process of fixing up my first home. Tuesday, May 15, 2007. Chalkboards as countertops: sustainability. Thanks to sara for my very first blog comment! Sara asked if the chalkboards and the finish I chose have held up over time. The finish lasted about 3 months. the guy at Home Depot recommended the $40 bottle, and whille I was reluctant to pay, I certainly didn't want to ruin my counters. That $40 would have been better spent on beer! You ready for the new finish? In my quest...

The Rookie Hooker

Not a hooker yet, but I aspire to be. This is my journey, from touching my first linen to becoming a full-fledged rug hooker. There will be mistakes. There may be blood. Something might dye. But there will be a completed rug. I will be a hooker. Wednesday, December 18, 2013. Hello fellow rug hookers! Julie Stamper here, and it’s been a while since I’ve posted. Lots of changes have happened at Bee Line Art Tools, so here’s a quick recap of what the busy bees have been up to! Look at the rug she started!

This headband uses the Moebius technique so that you can get that twisted effect while working in the rounds. I refer to the Moebius as a stitch but you can categorize it however you want. The point is that it creates a great effect with minimal effort once you know what you’re doing. CLICK HERE FOR MOBIUS. STEP BY STEP TUTORIAL WITH PICTURE. Yarn: Bernat Softee Chunky.
