New Year 2006 - An Teallach. The path is marked on the OS maps - not many are around here - but proved a little intermittent so most of our route in the early stages was yomping over heather and tussock. There were pockets of snow cover from only a few hundred feet up, and it wasn't long before a snowball whistled past my head, the impish grin on Mark's face making it obvious where it had come from! Haven't enjoyed a downhill section so much since I was a kid!

Cosmeston Sprint Triathlon 2008. One week after my first triathlon - a Try-a-Tri aimed at beginners - came my first full-on tri experience with a 750m open water swim and everything. Scarey! Actually I was quite nervoud, but in the event it went off fine. Registration was early once again - 6.10 by the lake on Sunday morning! GUNUNG MATCHINCHANG - FEB 2006. Oh, and some nice flora and fauna. The climb was sweaty work but not too taxing, as we'd opted to walk this one rather than run it (unlike previous outings on Penang, or Daulot's early morning dash up Langkawi's other peak Gunung Raya).The roped sections were good fun - no more than a scramble but don't take anyone up here who isn't sure-footed; it's an awkward climb back down with a casualty. A one-day trek from Chiang Mai to the summit of Doi Pui. If you want the map, and it did prove useful, try the Suriwongse bookshop just a few blocks east of the southeast corner of the old city. Later when we rested under some pines for lunch we met a local dude in a bandana on a trials bike who stopped and held a conversation with us with his dozen or so words of English. This was enough for us to get onto spiritual topics as two of the words were God and Buddha. God yes, Buddha no?
