There are records of a settlement at Salthouse in the Doomsday Book. The name, however, dates from the 16th century and originates from the village's use at that time, as a storage area for salt extracted locally.The village is tucked in between high heathland and the salt-marshes and shingle beach. The views from the top of the heath are quite breathtaking, spanning over 180 degrees of coastline. It's a great area for walking and bird-watching. Was launched in 2008. Is a good source for local history.
