Sam Sank made Aliyah. Saturday, 5 June 2010. First out of the plane! This past week has definitely been my most favourite week in the army so far, having jumped out of an aeroplane four times! It is all a bit surreal and I still have one more jump to do tomorrow, in order to get my wings. Walking into the plane. Jumping out the plane! I did four jumps this week:. 1) In the day, without any equipment. 2) In the day, with the chest bag. 3) In the night, with the chest bag. 5 June 2010 at 12:50.

Sam Sank made Aliyah. Thursday, 1 September 2011. From Lebanon to London. I don't think I've ever been more excited than I am right now. After a hard two weeks on the 'kav', I am home now in Tel Aviv for the weekend as I prepare for my month-long trip back to my other home in London on Sunday. To top it all off, last weekend was the first Shabbat that I have closed in ten weeks (! Working hard at the 'shin gimmel' (main gate of the base). Translation: Military area - no photography allowed!

Sam Sank made Aliyah. Tuesday, 16 August 2011. Having finishing my 'tafkid' as a commander in 'trom tironut', I am now at home for a couple before I return to my company and to the 'kav' on the northern border, where I have been absent for the last month. My soldiers lifting me up on our last day together. Is a new sense of confidence in myself to deal with all those sort of things; a type of Israeli attitude that forces you to argue with everyone and push your way to the front! That kind of nonsnse!

Sam Sank made Aliyah. Saturday, 21 January 2012. Waiting for the light to go green. As always though, I try to remain upbeat and see this as a challenge and part of the overall experience. Standing with my 'tik low' before a week of 'shetach'. Practising how to gear up during the day of jump training. Our combat equipment and when I say all, I mean everything! I assure you, no photoshop effects have been used to increase its size! And was, by far, the best bit of the whole week. About last Tuesday's jump.

Sam Sank made Aliyah. Friday, 8 April 2011. This is potentially the last time that I will be writing the blog from my room here in Kibbutz Ortal. Tomorrow, I am completing my move to Tel Aviv, meaning that I will officially be leaving the kibbutz and, consequently, the garin. Posing in our colouful berets. So, as you can see, I am very excited to be moving to Tel Aviv, even though it means I need to start using a waching machine all by myself now! Me with my class in 'makim'.
