On Mission in Guatemala. Monday, March 22, 2010. Thank you for your prayers. Please pray for the children this week. They have tests until Friday. I gave my English test on Thursday. The children did not do as well as I had hoped. Pray that God will help me to teach in a way that the children can understand and then speak the words they learn clearly. Learning English is as hard for them as it is for me to learn Spanish. We need lot of practice and to hear the words over and over again.

On Mission in Guatemala.: My final days in Patzún.

http://sarahinpatzun.blogspot.com/2010/10/my-final-days-in-patzun.html

On Mission in Guatemala. Monday, October 11, 2010. My final days in Patzún. Yesterday we had a big party at church. I heard several different things that the party could be for but no one said that they knew what it was really. I heard that it was a birthday party for aunt Cindy or a party to welcome the new deacons and elders or a party to say good bye to me. Boy was I surprised when the party was for all of the above. God bless you all. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Subscribe to E-Mail Updates.

Spaughs in Guatemala: January 2010

http://guatemalaspaugh.blogspot.com/2010_01_01_archive.html

January 11, 2010. It sounded like a war had broken out. Now, at least, the sky is pretty. (There is still a lot of smoke in the air though.). On Saturday, Jan. 2, Ken and Sarah, along with another missionary and his adult daughter, who was visiting, climbed Pacaya - the volcano south of Guatemala City. They were able to get within 3 or 4 feet of a lava flow! They roasted hot dogs over hot rocks! It was a first for Sarah! Guard's two rooms and transmitter room. The board of Radio Cultural y Educativo in Patzun has been thinking of ways to help the radio be more financially stable. Last fall they built two rooms to house a new mushroom project. Then in October, they started their first crop of Oyster mushrooms. They are now growing the second crop. So far, all of the mushrooms have been sold here in Patzun. One of the two rooms for growing the mushrooms. Bags of growing medium with mushroom seed in the dark room. They are almost ready to cut.

Spaughs in Guatemala: Making tamalitos

http://guatemalaspaugh.blogspot.com/2012/01/making-tamalitos.html

A couple of the ladies making tamalitos. First you start with a ball of masa shaped a little elongated. Notice the girl talking on the cell phone! Next, position it in a corn husk. Wrap the husk around the sides,. Then fold the top and bottom of the husk over the masa. I'm sitting on a bucket.). And there you have your tamalito -. Ready to be steamed for about an hour to an hour and a half. Cell phone conversation still going! Love the cell phone :D. January 17, 2012 at 9:16 PM. First Day of School - 2012.

Trip to the San Marcos area. The curtains on the windows were fairly sheer. Other than that, it wasn't all that bad for Comi. How would you like to hitch a ride like this? I guess the inside of the car was full. The next day we drove to the Getsemani - Mam Center to visit with the care-taker, Ruben. He and his boys were happy to see us. They showed us how they make rope. Site for the sanctuary. The lower rooms are on the other side of where the men are standing.). WET, WET Rainy Season. In the town of Sa...

June 4, 2010. On Wed., June 2, we took veteran missionaries David and Helen Ekstrom from the capital back to their home in Huehuetenango. On Thurs., they celebrated their 60th anniversary. Happy 60th, David and Helen! I was able to go with them to their anniversary breakfast at a local restaurant. (Ken was sick, so wasn't able to go.) I made rhubarb pies for lunch, using rhubarb from their garden! Landslide covering two lanes of traffic. Someone lost their crops! One section of the cement road disappeared.

Tuesday, March 15, 2011. Edward Steichen, Model Wearing Sandals. 1934. Here's my attempt at recreating this image:. Friday, February 25, 2011. The first film I saw for Movie Week was O Brother, Where Art Thou. It'. Pecker was a bit of a bizarre movie, but definitely entertaining. I tend to like these tongue-in-cheek sorts of films, so overall I enjoyed it. The story is centred on “Pecker” (what IS that name? Wednesday, January 26, 2011. Musings of a grounded tck. Why is sarah in process? September 11, 2012. How is this only Tuesday? That question probably clues you in to the kind of week I am having. Oh man. It’s not been a bad week by any stretch of the imagination. Just full. A very full week. More conversations and experiences and emotions have been poured into the last few days than I thought possible. A friend shared this link. And I can’t help but pass it on. An amalgamation called "girl.". All the little pieces. There are things that get left behind. Little bits of those we once loved. That is no longer a something. And there are the bits of those. All the little pieces that come from. All the ones no longer here. All the ones still here. All the little pieces. All the little pieces that make us. No one of us exists. In our singular selves. In all our little pieces. When you look in the mirror. Do you see armour. And do you wonder. I prefer the rust. So deep...

End of the year. December 30, 2014. Apparently blogging regularly is just not my “thing”. Oh, well… Despite the fact of only having 2 posts in 2014, I’ll end the year with one! This will be an update post and a reflection post all in one fell swoop. 2014 began with me living in a townhouse that I owned and ended with me living as an apartment dweller in downtown Fort Worth! Total God-story as to how He orchestrated the sale of my old place, the move to the new place, and everything in between! 2014 began...
