Is he in Seattle? What is he seeing? What films is he watching? What is he reading? What music is he hearing? Ryan has traveled with me to 10 countries in 6 years (Canada, Mexico, France. England, Germany, China. Indonesia, Thailand, and Japan. And has blogged about Paris. As I have traveled alone for work recently, Ryan has written a series of guest blog posts on items to consider before traveling. Travel Considerations Provided by the Following. SIFF 2007 with Sara Michelle Fetters: Catching the Fever
http://siff-2007.blogspot.com/2007/06/catching-fever.html
SIFF 2007 with Sara Michelle Fetters. Sunday, June 3, 2007. Being that I write for a movie website that usually tends to specialize in talking about the latest theatrical releases and new DVD’s, SIFF gives me a great opportunity to experience a whole slew of pictures I might not otherwise get a chance to see. That is definitely the case with David Hoffman’s documentary The Fever of ’57 which had its World Premiere at the festival just the other night. If you can put that in a powerful movie, almost like ...

Worlds of Fragments: February 2008

Movie Review Query Engine. Jafar Panahi, 2007. Admirable, I guess, but the (neo)realism didn't do much for me. I enjoyed the ending in the van, but otherwise the whole scenario feels so slight that I'm not sure how I feel about it as a movie. Feeders 2: Slay Bells. John and Mark Polonia, 1998. It's kind of surprising that in comparison the original Feeders. Paul Verhoeven, 2007. Joe Wright, 2007. Scott Frank, 2007. I don't remember exactly why I passed this up in the theater. Maybe it came out at the...

Worlds of Fragments: March 2008

Movie Review Query Engine. David Lean, 1962. Claude Rains is the only great performance here, as in Casablanca. I didn't recall Lawrence being so utterly empty, but he seems like a man in search of himself, eventually finding nothing. At the beginning he seems eccentric, then he acquires some bloodlust, and by the end he's confused and ruined. Gus Van Sant, 2008. Which is just so far removed from, say, Mala Noche. I also just noticed/remembered that Casey Affleck, who I loved last year, is in Gerry.

Adventures of a tired coder. What's the kitty doing now? July 9, 2004. Posted on July 9, 2004 2:13 PM. July 11, 2004. It's the end of the weekend, and I'm anticipating my first day of work tomorrow. I've had fun hanging out with my friends during the latter part of last week, since my social life will probably have to slow down once the movers come. There's so much to do in the Seattle area, particularly during the summer when the weather is so nice. Posted on July 11, 2004 2:06 PM. July 18, 2004. Life h...
