绵羊，作为西南亚中东、中亚、蒙古和中国北方重要的家畜，有着十分重要的经济如畜牧业、文化如历史文化传播和政治如民族稳定和发展作用。本研究利用分布于欧亚大陆的200多个地方绵羊品种以及野生绵羊的全线粒体基因组或部分线粒体序列，通过荟萃和模型分析，首次揭示了绵羊从其近东驯化中心迁徙至蒙古高原，以及进一步扩散至中国西北、华北、华东、西南、青藏高原、以及印度半岛的路线，且其迁移与人类早期的东-西方贸易例如青铜之路和古丝绸之路密切相关。另外，本研究结果揭示早期人类主导的野羊公羊与家羊绵羊母羊的杂交可能导致了现代绵羊的较近期、新的线粒体单倍型群的产生。 Molecular Biology and Evolution.
