Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Institute for Handicapped ( Blind School ) – An excerpt from an article by Mr. D.T. Bhutia, written in the 1990 NAB magazine ( Hamro Chinhari ). This school has given a new meaning to the life of all the children who were hitherto considered more a less a burden to the family and society. Sikkim School for the Blind was established on 15th September 1987 in the Panchayat Ghar provided by the RDD. 5 acres of land procured at Boomtar, Namchi for the establishment of Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Institute for handicapped.
