It is hoped that the services held at St. Mary the Virgin (Wendens Ambo, Saffron Walden, Essex) strive to enable our congregations to encounter God through a range of traditional and modern Christian faith services. The ancient village church of St. Mary the Virgin, Wendens Ambo, near Saffron Walden, Essex. Dating from about 1085, the western tower is undoubtedly the most interesting part of the church. A very peculiar feature found also in the Saxon tower of St. Benet's church at Cambridge, is a series of round sound holes just below the embattled parapet.

Lord Braybrooke gifted the Hall to Wendens Ambo church for Sunday School use during the 19th century. More recently through sustained village fundraising activity the hall has been substantially improved and is booked for a wide range of group interests and activities. Run by an efficient Village Hall Committee, the facilities are modern and comfortably accommodate up to about 100 people. Sat Nav to church hall car park: CB11 4JX.

The churchyard surrounding St. Mary's church is peaceful with the oldest burials registered over 500 years ago. Please refer to the contact page. For register enquiry details. The original churchyard was entirely enclosed with a flint wall, and following the first extension in the 20th century metal railings were used for part of the boundary.
