Horsey Therapist

Wednesday, September 01, 2010. Ongoing flow of changes. I have been connecting with friends from the past and finding moments of solace and moments of elation and inspiration through these renewed contacts. I have been practicing my best horsemanship and studying more with my most favorite teachers. My horses continue to thank me. More later. I promise. Just can't tell you when 'later' is. Best wishes to all. Posted by LJB @ 6:36 AM. Wednesday, April 07, 2010. She, being a Morgan, is a quick learner....

Horsey Therapist: October 2006

http://thehorseytherapist.blogspot.com/2006_10_01_archive.html

Saturday, October 28, 2006. My friend asked, "Do you like challenge in all creatures or just horses? I like challenges less and less, though I doubt I'll ever get to zero tolerance of a challenge. I've had an adrenaline reaction tied into facing a challenge, and over the years, I've grown to enjoy life without adrenaline. A whole 'nother universe. And yes, I have kept passing up the opportunities to relate with bomb proof horses and mild, yielding humans in favor of developing relationships with those wi...

Horsey Therapist: August 2006

http://thehorseytherapist.blogspot.com/2006_08_01_archive.html

Monday, August 28, 2006. Herd doesn't allow poor behavior. From my notes from the June 2006 clinic time with Harry Whitney:. The herd doesn't allow poor behavior, so we can think the way the herd would, and let a horse know he has got to feel better before he can get close. Example: my horse is feeing bad about something and I draw him close for some patting thinking that might help him feel better. Instead of seeking to help him feel better out at the end of the lead line before bringing him close.

Horsey Therapist: Rusty as barometer

http://thehorseytherapist.blogspot.com/2009/11/rusty-as-barometer.html

Sunday, November 08, 2009. Today Rusty told me I'm on the right track with my exercise regime and attention to using my core and releasing my back muscles. After all, if I want him to move with ease and release his topline, then I need to do the same. He's always been a horse who reflects the minute details of my presentation. And today we cantered both directions (haha, not at the same time! Posted by LJB @ 11:22 AM. At 08 November, 2009 14:14. Vermont and New Hampshire, United States. Millie, the cat.

Horsey Therapist: Formula training

http://thehorseytherapist.blogspot.com/2009/12/formula-training.html

Thursday, December 24, 2009. A recent online discussion of horsemanship prompted me to put a few things into words. People were talking about formula training, formula trainers, and what they found valuable or not with some of the current 'name brand' formula trainers. One noted that some students want formulas and formula programs are good for those folks. My thoughts reflect my opinion about formulas. Please read on. However my formula is not about technique. It is about awareness and intent. I will ad...

Horsey Therapist: Winter horse activities

http://thehorseytherapist.blogspot.com/2010/01/winter-horse-activities.html

Friday, January 22, 2010. It's fully winter here in New England. Snow. Cold. Sun. Clouds. Cold. Mild. Really, really cold. I am grateful that my dear RNB takes good care of the woodpile and the furnace and I have easy access to a warm home. The horses are settling after their move to our new place. I love seeing them out the window in the morning. They know where to stand as they wait, and they can see our activity through some windows and patiently stand there until I come out to feed. How inspiring&#46...

Musings from the Bottom of Chestnut Hill: Amanda's first show!

http://shellyct.blogspot.com/2009/05/amandas-first-show.html

Musings from the Bottom of Chestnut Hill. Sunday, May 17, 2009. My daughter attended her first horse show today! She did great, First Place in Equitation, Second Place in Pleasure, and Fourth in ground poles. Is that a school pony? I know you're so proud :). May 18, 2009 at 7:14:00 AM EDT. Yup, she's a school pony. Great little pony, I want to scoop her up and bring her home and save her from all the kids with bad hands and hard butts! May 18, 2009 at 7:29:00 AM EDT. Musings from the Bottom of Chestnut Hill: Where I've Been

http://shellyct.blogspot.com/2010/07/where-ive-been.html

Musings from the Bottom of Chestnut Hill. Wednesday, July 21, 2010. There's an echo in here. I think I see one little face way in the back. Hi there! I'm still here, sort of, but in a much different place than I was when I started this blog. The story goes like this. Was I looking for work? I had an interview the next day (a Friday), which wasn't really an interview but more of a "We need you, will you please work for us? And started on Monday. So in case you thought I fell off the face of the earth, I h...

What happens when a slightly cynical, middle-aged American woman living in Ireland goes absolutely and completely horse mad? Prix Caprilli Test 2. July 13, 2015 in Bits. What happens when a slightly cynical, middle-aged American woman living in Ireland goes absolutely and completely horse mad? You Gotta Start Somewhere: My Very First Dressage Test Ever. June 19, 2015 in Dressage: Who Knew? Ever done correctly, that is, with the white things down on the ground, and the silence. So it never gets done. And the Horse You Rode in On! | Rants on Anything Stupid

And the Horse You Rode in On! September 23, 2014. There can’t be two words in the English language when, put together in that specific order, piss me off more. Who gets to determine what’s politically correct? And define correct for me, will you please? Not that a definition would matter. The politically correct redefine words to mean what they want them to mean. For example, consider the word tolerant . For the last several years, we’ve been hounded to be tolerant of those around us. So there. I’ve ...

Our North American Adventure

Our North American Adventure. December 5, 2013. Hello Portland, the city of “weird” (seriously, their slogan is “keeping Portland weird”). First up was brunch at Lardo, a funky restaurant all about bringing back good fats. I knew I was in heaven the moment I walked through the door. Heating plus scrumptious food plus excellent branding = I’m home. All our book shopping had us ready for a coffee at local Stumptown Coffee Roasters. Portland has an amazing food scene.
