We'll try anything once. 2012 Holiday Card Blooper Reel. 2012 Holiday Card Blooper Reel. This entry was posted in Travel. December 15, 2012. Day Nine: Oslo (Norway). Our day in Oslo started early, when I went for a walk to pick up something for breakfast. I found my way back to a bakery we’d passed the day before and bought croissants, chocolate croissants and a baguette to enjoy in the room. After a quick wake up and coffee made in the room, we were off to the Gustav Vigeland Sculpture Park. Papa recomm...

We'll try anything once. 2012 Holiday Card Blooper Reel. Kaiseki Dinner at Kinmata. Kaiseki or kaiseki ryōri is a traditional multi-course Japanese dinner analogous to Western haute cuisine (more at wikipedia. For our first night in Kyoto we stayed at a traditional inn or ryokan. A big part of the experience at Kinmata. The courses came in waves, served by a lovely group of young ladies, who just moved around us silently, collecting plates and leaving new (and sometimes challenging) dishes for us to try&...

We'll try anything once. 2012 Holiday Card Blooper Reel. Day Five: Bergen (Norway). After going non-stop for a few days, we must have hit a wall, sleeping in until 10:30am. Hey, it’s Sunday, we’re allowed to sleep in, right? We didn’t get out the door until close to noon, which was NOT on the Camp Lulu itinerary. We had to get moving, but which way? We then fought with a bank machine – it’s never easy for us, getting cash in a foreign country (see Osaka 2009). Thankfully, this one had a h...We wandered b...

We'll try anything once. 2012 Holiday Card Blooper Reel. Day Seven: Flam (Norway). Flam is a very small town, especially when it’s raining. We had planned to do some more hiking and then take an afternoon tour of the fjords in a zodiac, but when we awoke to rain, we decided to take it easy. We read and watched movies and just enjoyed some downtime in the middle of our journey. A little bit further along we took a turn into Naeroyfjord, a UNESCO World Heritage site. It is a 18 km long branch of the wo...

We'll try anything once. 2012 Holiday Card Blooper Reel. Day Six: Bergen to Flam (Norway). In my last note I forgot to mention an important interaction we had in Bergen. We were wandering the old town (Bryggen) early in our trip and came upon an artist shop and studio. We took a look and loved his work, but decided to wait and see what else we could find. Well, nothing quite struck us like his stuff, so we made our way back to him near the end of our last day in town. This one’s pretty cool too. Early in...

The past six or so months, or maybe it’s more like the past year and a half, has been a time of new digs… so why not jostle around the virtual residence of the g*log, too, right? I’m not dead yet, so that’s good. Now, where was I? Lounge, dining area and workshop. I haven’t gotten off my ass to process more photos of the construction of the edit suite and all that, so deal with it! Dining room, looking into kitchen. The back yard… Stylish, eh? But, here we are, to stay for a while, I’d say. It&...Fill in...

Beantown to the Big Island. This blog follows our life abroad in Tokyo, Japan. 6/10/08 through? Saturday, June 14, 2008. Exploring Asakusa, (pronounced Asaksa). These pictures are from the river boat cruise we went on down the Sumida River. They literally call this gold thing a bird turd. This was the first of 13 bridges that we went under during the cruise. The Senso-ji Shrine in Asakusa. We both picked up our fortunes here and each of them said that a big move and marriage is bad right now!

Beantown to the Big Island. This blog follows our life abroad in Tokyo, Japan. 6/10/08 through? Friday, July 4, 2008. On July 4th, I took the day off and joined a few coworkers for my first round of golf in Japan at Gotemba West. Many of the fairways had large grass bunkers - a huge bunker of thick grass in the middle of the fairway. Much harder to recover from and easier to lose a ball in compared with a traditional bunker. Wednesday, July 2, 2008. One of Tokyo's major landmarks and only about a ten-min...

A few of my siblings are big fans - mem not so much. So, I got to have a sleep over with all my nieces and nephews! And we had a blast! We started the evening out with the smaller kids upstairs watching Bolt. Look at them sitting so nicely watching the movie! I thought to myself, "see, they are so good! There's nothing to it!
