Alice Poon 潘慧嫻 : April 2015
http://alicewaihanpoon.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html
To share my reveries and musings mostly on books that I read, occasionally on music and movies. Sunday, April 12, 2015. Book Review: "The Belly of Paris" by Emile Zola. It seems to me that somewhere beneath all the stomach-turning descriptive lexicon, Zola wants to express just one thought in this novel, which is what the painter Claude says in exclamation at the very end: “ What blackguards respectable people are! Whose job was to force-feed the pigeons. Links to this post. Saturday, April 4, 2015.

Alice Poon 潘慧嫻 : Book Review: "To the Lighthouse" by Virginia Woolf
http://alicewaihanpoon.blogspot.com/2015/03/book-review-to-lighthouse-by-virginia.html
To share my reveries and musings mostly on books that I read, occasionally on music and movies. Sunday, March 1, 2015. Book Review: "To the Lighthouse" by Virginia Woolf. This was my first Woolf novel, having recently read her non-fiction title “A Room of One’s Own”, which is an extended essay in fictional narrative form and which gave me a taste of her writing style. After putting down the book, I found that the words are no longer there, but the imageries have stuck. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Why can't the authorities understand that it is coward and irresponsible to use police violence against people whose only aim is to assert their fundamental right to representative government? Alice Poon 潘慧嫻 : May 2015
http://alicewaihanpoon.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html
To share my reveries and musings mostly on books that I read, occasionally on music and movies. Sunday, May 24, 2015. Book Review - "Pride and Prejudice". This was my first Austen novel. I saw the 2005 movie adaptation starring Keira Knightley and my impression was that it was an artificially sweet romantic story bordering on the make-believe kind. Reading the novel has confirmed that first impression, and I've been wondering if I might have enjoyed the story more had I read it in my younger days. Which ...

Alice Poon 潘慧嫻 : Book Review - "Une Vie" ("A Woman's Life") by Guy de Maupassant
http://alicewaihanpoon.blogspot.com/2015/05/book-review-une-vie-womans-life-by-guy.html
To share my reveries and musings mostly on books that I read, occasionally on music and movies. Saturday, May 2, 2015. Book Review - "Une Vie" ("A Woman's Life") by Guy de Maupassant. This was a slower-paced read, but the writing is nonetheless beautiful. I was captivated by Maupassant's sensitivities in his descriptive skills in general. The setting is mainly in a seaside suburb of Rouen, with some diversion to the island of Corsica, all beautifully portrayed. The times are in the early 19. Ratings: 25 ...

Alice Poon 潘慧嫻 : September 2014

To share my reveries and musings mostly on books that I read, occasionally on music and movies. Tuesday, September 30, 2014. My Thoughts and Observations on the "Umbrella Movement". I’ve been refraining from commenting on Hong Kong current affairs because I feel that observing development of events in Hong Kong from far away has its limitations, which would cloud my judgment and render it unfair. If what is laid down in the Basic Law is against the wishes of the majority of Hong Kong people, why can̵...
