Activities aboard ship

http://www.ussliddle.org/Activities2.htm

Activities Aboard Ship – Page 2. With a maximum range of approximately 5,000 miles, refueling at sea was a common occurrence for Destroyer Escorts. This series of photographs is from such a refueling sequence. Nerve-wracking under the best of circumstances, imagine this operation in bad weather and rough seas! The Liddle approaches alongside the oiler. Lines are passed from the oiler to the Liddle. The fueling hose is brought aboard.

These are official Navy photographs, which we believe were taken by my Grandfather aboard the ship. Things look serious on the bridge. The only person identified is Lieutenant (j.g.) Seabrook. Gunnery Training. Boy will this become important in the Pacific theatre. More work with the guns.

http://www.ussliddle.org/Bizerte.htm

USS Liddle in Bizerte, Tunisia. The USS Liddle was one of the escorts that accompanied a convoy to the city of Bizerte, Tunisia. These photographs are all from the harbor area at Bizerte. Of particular interest to me are the sunken ships and the bomb damage ashore. The harbor at Bizerte, Tunisia. One of the many sunken ships in the Bizerte harbor. Another sunken ship in Bizerte. Bomb damage in Bizerte, Tunisia.

USS Lifestyle

Phase I: Loud Yardwork After Dark. Briefing: At approximately 1600 hours the enemy began shelling the entire region. Not having been noticed, I decided to wait it out, hoping they would get bored and leave. By 1730 hours we were taking heavy casualties, and I was forced to take action. Unfortunately, my primaries were on the fritz, and it took me 45 minutes or so to get all systems back online. Results: Captain soaked to the skin, back yard fully tilled, and enemy mostly unaffected by the assault. I foun...
