Bike Musings: Pugs Fail
http://bikemusings.blogspot.com/2011/07/pugs-fail.html
Monday, July 18, 2011. I had a superb three hour trail ride in all conditions today. Here are a few thoughts few conclusions. Caveat: Forget about flotation, this is a review of the Pugsley as a trail. Bike Excellence in the areas requiring flotation is a given, but that is not what I use this bike for. I was pleasantly surprised to hear a sound reminiscent of the original Enterprise's warp drive. While rolling fast on a short paved section. Rigid bike with a little more cush as I took it down my favorit...

Bike Musings: February 2011
http://bikemusings.blogspot.com/2011_02_01_archive.html
Monday, February 21, 2011. I purposely took both bikes to Sedona to compare them and rode the Jones in the morning, and the By:Stickel in the afternoon. I only had about two hours on the Jones prior to this ride and maybe 60 hours on the By:Stickel. Imagine my surprise when I rode more comfortably and confidently in technical terrain, and at high speed on the Jones. It wasn't even close. This sort of move was no problem on the Jones, it would have scared me on the By:Stickel. Much heavier (same weight fo...

Bike Musings: August 2010
http://bikemusings.blogspot.com/2010_08_01_archive.html
Sunday, August 29, 2010. Summer has just died here. This am is was cool, breezy and mostly bluebird skies. We took a couple new folks out to the Dells. They appeared to have fun. I know I sure did. Simon Bar is the perfect bike. Rarely did I feel like I wanted anything more. Just below Willow Dam. This is the result of blowing your wad climbing waaay STIL slick rock. We did this next section a bunch of times with a couple different lines. It requires careful braking, but isn't really that bad. WB will en...

Bike Musings: April 2011
http://bikemusings.blogspot.com/2011_04_01_archive.html
Thursday, April 28, 2011. I took little E out to the new mellow Dells light trail to see how he could do in some mildly technical terrain. As he is growing, his strength is increasing significantly. I had also lowered the gearing on his SS and put on some light knobbies recently which would help his climbing. First tech section.passed. Sometimes it ain't gonna happen. It wasn't all tech. Time to head down and hit a few tech sections:. I'm proud of the ratchet pedaling in that one:). Links to this post.

Bike Musings: January 2011
http://bikemusings.blogspot.com/2011_01_01_archive.html
Sunday, January 30, 2011. This is a rare breast tumor known as a phyllodes tumor. I have only see one in my 10 years in practice. This photo shows this large 6-7cm tumor transected and also shows the "leafy" appearance from which the tumor derives its name. This one presented as a large mass in the breast and needle biopsy confirmed the diagnosis. It is preferable to breast adenocarcinoma. Wide excision is curative. Links to this post. When these work they are pretty brilliant. The largest of which is 3cm.

Bike Musings: July 2010
http://bikemusings.blogspot.com/2010_07_01_archive.html
Thursday, July 15, 2010. I was running a little late for work, so I jumped on the "fast" road bike to blast the streets in to work with my plan being to stop for a run and test the new shoes after work in the Dells. I planned to ride/walk the bike into the Dells, then stash it somewhere safe until after the run when I would pick it up. Once at the entrance to the Dells, I lowered the saddle and started to ride in. I was surprised to find myself walking almost nothing. I also had a couple rude reminders a...

Bike Musings: Pugsley
http://bikemusings.blogspot.com/2011/07/pugsley.html
Saturday, July 16, 2011. Let me be honest and say why I bought a Pugsley: I am fat-curious. I have no doubt in my mind (especially after riding one) that these sorts of bikes simply dominate in situations requiring lots. Of flotation. I personally don't get in many situations where the flotation is really needed. The question for me, then, is: How to fat bikes perform as all around trail bikes? So what is the ultimate unsuspended trail bike? 29", full fat? I am going to try to find out that answer for me.

Bike Musings: October 2010
http://bikemusings.blogspot.com/2010_10_01_archive.html
Thursday, October 28, 2010. I got to show a friend of a friend around the Dells yesterday. Let's call him "Brian O.". I never know quite how these sorts of blind date type rides are going to go. I love showing off the Dells trail system, but the system really appeals to a certain sort of rider who thrives/craves technical terrain, and who also has the strength, fitness and judgement to ride within their bounds and keep their equipment (and bodies) safe. Started in Willow Dells:. Brian on the girl line.
