Getting Out.: May 2016
http://ahalfwitoutdoors.blogspot.com/2016_05_01_archive.html
Sunday, 8 May 2016. Today was round 3 of the Spring Series, this time taking place in Calver. Again Dani and myself chose the 5k short course rather than the longer 15k. The weather was amazing, especially considering that last weekend I ran in snow, but a beautifull hot spring day may be nice to lounge around in but doesn't make for good running, some drizzle would have been nice. Not a bad result. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile. Tales of a Midlife Cyclist.

Sunday, 28 February 2016. Monyash 5k Trail Run. Whilst I haven't done much biking or canoeing lately I have been out running, off-road of course, usually a short loop down in the Goyt Valley. Although I just like running for the sake of running to give myself something to aim for I've entered a few races this year, along with Dani. Once through the farm we crossed a field, went through a gate and then things started to get far more interesting. On the course map there's a section marked 'CARE! Blog about...

Getting Out.: April 2014

Friday, 18 April 2014. Old shoes, new cleats. My single pair of cycling shoes (Shimano) are pretty old, but still comfortable and have yet to actually fall apart. The cleats however;. I use Time pedals, these have more side to side float than Shimano SPDs which I find more comfortable. The cleats are bronze and are held in place by two screws which pass through the sole into an adjustable steel plate inside the shoe. Screw heads drilled out. Inner plate on left, old cleats top, new cleats below. Why they...

Saturday, 7 March 2015. First road ride of 2015. I've been rubbish over the winter, not getting out and doing much at all as my waistline will confirm. So last week I went out for a short off-road run (running on paved surfaces is frankly dull! And today I dug out the Pompi. For a short ride. Down to the crossroads at Whaley Bridge and left up Long Hill. Which today really lived up to its name. Looking form the summit of Long Hill towards Buxton. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Getting Out.: July 2016

Sunday, 31 July 2016. The frame is carbon, a first for me, as are the forks. Gearing is SRAM GX1 11x1 (11 tooth sprocket on the back, single chainring on the front). Most of the finishing kit is Alpkit's own 'Love Mud' range, including the wheels. Note the drilled rims to reduce rotating weight, that's the rim tape that can be seen peeking through. Unfortunetely I put a scratch on the downtube carrying the bike in the back'o'Landy, despite covering the frame in an old fleece blanket;. First impressions a...

Saturday, 25 June 2016. A waltz is a dance right? Not this one. The Whaley Waltz is a fell race held as part of the annual Whaley Bridge Carnival. The race is 9.3k/5.8 miles long including 274m/899ft of climbing, category BS. With thanks to the race organisers, the event was superbly run, the course well marked and marshalled. Saturday, 18 June 2016. White Peak Trail Run. Friday, 17 June 2016. This morning the Aviva Womens Tour came through Buxton on their way from Ashbourne to Chesterfield, so I took th...

Getting Out.: December 2014

Sunday, 7 December 2014. A short walk on Kinder. Seeing those runners made me wish for better fitness, a few years ago I used to run the route that I intended to walk today. As much as I enjoy walking in the hills, running feels so much 'freer'. The weather soon improved, although the waterproofs stayed on, and I enjoyed the walk along Grinds Brook, soon passing the two lads. As I reached the steepest part of the path the weather turned again, this time to sleet. Dogs and sleet, Grinds Brook Clough.

Getting Out.: September 2016

Sunday, 18 September 2016. Out to Hathersage today, to take part in the Stanage Struggle fell race. An unusually warm September morning made me wish that I was far better hydrated, a lot less tired and that I hadn't touched any beer last night. Saturday, 17 September 2016. I last did this ride back in 2014. And this week I decided that it was time for another visit. Last time I rode my cheapo s/s 29er, this time the weapon of choice was the fat bike. I only took two photos today;. Goyt Valley Trail Run.

Saturday, 31 January 2015. Snowshoeing in the Goyt Valley. This week we've had snow. Quite a lot of it in fact, enough to cause panic Thursday morning, and enough to cover the moors in a thick layer of the soft white stuff. Which meant that we had enough to make it worth getting out the snowshoes for the first time in a couple of winters. Debbie at the start of the walk. We noted a car which had left the road and rolled a few times before coming to a stop halfway down a steep bank. Its not a road tha...
