Wife – in captivity. Expat Hausfrau looking for good clean fun in the german countryside! The old house came with a beautiful garden with rose hedges, fruit trees and a dam. They were willing to throw in a gardener but we wanted to do it ourselves, although we have wondered several times if that was the right choice. We stayed in Manarola this year and it was so wonderful to see the city different times of the day. It was rainy during our stay but that didn’t dampen our enjoyment of this beautiful city. Things that can be made ahead and picked out of the refrigerator when the day cools down and the appetite awakens. During a trip to Stavanger I ran across Déjà Vu Delikatesser. Where I had a lovely salad which I have tried to recreate here. Field salad - I used red leafed for a little color. Fresh mango - chunked. Fresh cantalope - chunked.

Since it is getting closer to Lent or Fastnacht we need to store up some energy to make it through to Easter. I have been craving good old-fashioned sticky buns like they serve after church in any basement of any Lutheran Church in the Midwest. I have not eaten a sticky bun since long before I moved to Norway, so to say it was 20 years ago is a safe estimate. Harvest Cinnamon roll recipe.

No really. As previously professed I was going to spice up the traditional family dinner with some hippy salad, but I chickened out. Not particularly ballsy of me but that’s the scoop. Picture it…a couple weeks ago, right as we are hit with a horrid cold snap with tornado type wind, the zipper breaks on the hood to my giant puffy coat. I bought the coat just a couple months ago but I no longer have the damn receipt. After a few days of suffering with an itchy wool hat (and hair thus ruined for the entire day) I get the brilliant idea to pin the hood back on with safety pins. (Go me!
