Thursday, June 18, 2009. I'm in Middlesboro, Kentucky right now in a motel room watching Women Behind Bars. I'm up here for my 130/190 Basic Wildland Firefighter's Course, given by the Cumberland Gap National Park Fire Module. Wilderness Road Chorus presents barbershop-style musical harmony throughout the New River Valley. Barbershop style is four-part harmony, sung a cappella. A solid sound that usually is the melody. A light, sweet, harmony sung above the lead. A harmony crossing above and below the lead. A rich mellow sound of the lowest notes of the chord. When the harmony is just right, everyone hears a fifth tone, the overtone. It reverberates through the room. That's ringing the chord.
