Tilth, Table, and Terroir. Growing, eating, drinking, and living sustainably on California's Central Coast. Tuesday, February 26, 2008. Carpeting went in yesterday. Kristin chose a natural wool-blend carpet from Green Goods, backed with natural jute backing. The pad is made of recycled materials. We think it looks and feels good! It is a major step forward to see this completed. Links to this post. Links to this post. Links to this post. Monday, February 25, 2008. 3820 Broad St., San Luis Obispo. For Sop...

April 25th - Marseilles and Bandol. 4-25-09 – Marseilles and Bandol. Michel and Anna invited me to go to Bandol, to perhaps go sailing on Michel’s sailboat. I met them in front of the hotel , and we left in their car. We drove down the Rhone valley, past Aix-en-Provence, Mont Luberon, and down toward the coast. Humans have lived around here for 30,000 years, evidenced by cav...

Tilth, Table, and Terroir. Growing, eating, drinking, and living sustainably on California's Central Coast. Saturday, May 31, 2008. Currently, I am writing from Barcelona. I know, I know, I should be out enjoying the amazing ambiance, food, music, nightlife, etc. instead of writing blog posts. Don't you worry - it is still early! And I already put in a full night last night, and a full day today. Anyway, the market is incredible. It is my favorite thing here, and Sagrada Familia. Links to this post.

Tilth, Table, and Terroir. Growing, eating, drinking, and living sustainably on California's Central Coast. Tuesday, September 16, 2008. Morning Samples - Russell Vineyard 9/16/08. My guess is that we will be down regionally about 30% or more compared to an 'average' harvest year in many of the Bordeaux varieties, particularly Cab Sauvignon. Ouch! But will the wines be really, really good to make up for the short crop? It will be interesting to see this year's result! Links to this post. Reds will be a b...

Tilth, Table, and Terroir. Growing, eating, drinking, and living sustainably on California's Central Coast. Sunday, February 04, 2007. Quality: A Manifesto for Wine. The following came out of a discussion within a class I am taking at UC Davis. The topic was to define wine quality. (The strict structure resembles the many levels of Hell in Dante's Inferno, now that I look back at it! What does Wine Quality mean to me? 2) If (and only IF) a wine meets the first criteria, the next step up in quality is tha...

Tilth, Table, and Terroir. Growing, eating, drinking, and living sustainably on California's Central Coast. Sunday, April 26, 2009. April 23rd - Paris. I am in Paris - for the first time ever in the springtime. I think that I have only ever been here in the winter, with cool misty greyness everywhere. The light lasts until late in the evening, and the flowers and trees are all exploding in green and vibrant colors. Birds are singing everywhere, the sun is shining and everything seems perfect!
