Pomp and circumstance →. May 23, 2011. It was just as much a part of summer vacation as boating and skiing and sunning and swimming were. In fact, for one week each summer, it was the mandatory nightly routine. The cottage was small. Painfully small for two adults, five teenagers, and two kids. I mean, it. Only a two bedroom cottage. But somehow that added to the comfort of it all. That scrunchedness made it even more fun. The kitchen table was meant to seat six, but we jammed in nine. You can keep addin...

Emmy Mom--One Day at a Time: Our Yes Day
http://www.emmymom2.com/2013/08/our-yes-day.html
Tuesday, August 6, 2013. As parents we tend to say one thing a lot, or at least I know I do. "No". It might not always be that exact word, it might be "not right now" or "sorry, we can't" or "stop that right now! You know that is okay, we need to say no as a parent; it is our job to try and raise kind good, not totally spoiled selfish little brats and that often means saying no. As our summer came to an end I wanted to try something new, something different and special for just one day; a "Yes Day".

Written on January 10, 2013. December was chaotic. An unexpected death in the family sent us to California for a long weekend. As a result of the expense, Elijah and I decided not to exchange gifts and we tried to scale back our other purchases. We did, however continue the tradition of taking the kids shopping for their gifts to mom and dad. He totally won Christmas this year. 20 Comments - Leave a comment! Son of a rich. October 13, 2011. 8220;Mama,” Evan whispers. “Tell me a story about when I was a baby, please.”. I snuggle up behind him on the mattress his father and I once shared and sigh, knowing that what he really means is he wants a story about Before. 8220;Oh sweet baby boy, it’s late. How ’bout we just say our prayers? This time it’s his turn to sigh, “OK Mama.”. I spoon Evan closer as if I can somehow return him to the safety of my womb. 8220;Yes angel.”. 8220;When will Daddy be home? My arm act...

A wish for a friend. December 6, 2011. Drinks, dessert, doorway dance. Experiences of long ago. Doors opened, doors held, doors no longer slammed shut. Teenage wanting wound tight in a stretched and scarred body. Music, from inside her head, maybe the other room. 8230; “who’s got their claws in you my friend…into your heart I’ll beat again…”. Tell tale. Who knew it still could. Fingers on buttons, in hair, between lips. A giggle, because she knows what’s to come. Please let the lighting be kind. AhhhR...

Tuesday, February 28, 2012. Wine a Bit. You'll Feel Better. The RemembeRED memoir prompt at Write on Edge. This week is to write about wine, coffee, or chocolate. One of the best vacations my husband and I have ever taken was in the wine country. Are you surprised? I didn’t think so. We talk about it all the time like it is part of an era gone by. Vacations are a whole lot different nowadays with a child. The most memorable winery was Christopher Creek. We happened upon it by accident down a gravel r...
