The Wixom Historical Society was founded in 1975 to preserve the history of Wixom and promote an understanding of the city's heritage. The fertile soil, abundant forests and lakes drew many settlers to purchase land in this area, among them the Wixom and Sibley families. In 1854, Lucy Wixom saw the need for someone to minister to the growing community and had a small house built for Reverend Samuel Wire and his wife. It was built adjacent to the cemetery so it could be used for services and funerals.
